Dear Marketers,

Currently I am doing my keyword research with MNF, and after few hours I finally find a keyword that MNF shows SOC 16. However, when I decided to use this keyword as my main keyword, I further check the SEO competition in Market Samurai, but the result shows that it is not an easy keyword to bit other site. Just want to ask for some advice from the experts... mind give me some idea what is going on here?

Million Thanks! :confused:

    If you want to use market samurai for keyword research then you want to find a keyword with basically this if your looking for a niche... 100 searches per day on the exact match - Is the top 10 seo sites fully seo'ed? - do they have less then 100 BL's?

    Those are 3 simple things I look at to determine a niche, there is more but thats a start.

      Thanks for reply!

      From the search, it showed there are only 2 sites below 50 links, and there are 5 sites that has PR below 2. They didn't have full SEO because the title, URL, Dec, and H1 are not fully optimized! Just their backlink section is all red which makes me feel it is hard to push them down!

    The competition does not really look that hard, I would think that a few high quality relevant links to your site should be enough to pass them. It is not the number of links that you have but the quality of those links which moves your site up in the rankings.

  • A keyword tool is only as good as the database it pulls from.

    I would also take a look at the top 10 myself without using any tools. Just use a plugin like SEO for Firefox to determine the PR, age, backlinks etc of the top 10, this will also allow you to decide on the feasiblity of this keyword.

    Good luck

    Within Market samurai I find the following setting to be very effective

    1) PBR -> 15
    2) Minimum daily searches -> 80
    3) seo com -> 100,000

    This should give an indication of some keywords that would be possibly easy to rank for.

          How do you review backlinks?

          Do you look at the backlinks for the homepage, a specific page for the targeted keyword or for the whole site?

          In yahoo's site explorer you get different results depending how you type in the URL. For example, if you type in "www[dot]domain[dot]com" you will get a different result than if you type in "domain[dot]com".

          So what should we rely on for determining backlinks?

            market samuria is good for competition analysis.. gives the type of competition you will have.. domain age / links to domain and pages / dmoz and yahoo listed etc.. on page seo factors.. etc

            I also use seoelite to double check the backlinks.. but if you dont have these then yahoo is the best place to check

              I purchased both MNF and MS and as I have been using them over the past few months, I have found MNF to be somewhat inconsistent in its findings. Mostly with exact search matches.

              MS seems to be much more accurate at analyzing the competition.

              Just my 2 sense.

    The real point is that any soc numbers are purely and simply just indicators that there might, just MIGHT be a chance that the top 10 in Google for that keyword are easily beatable.

    If you base any decisions on keywords just from metrics like soc then you are not only leaving a lot of potentialy good keywords on the table but chasing after false ones as well.

    Thanks for all your valuable information!

    I totally agree that the soc is only an indicator as I find that there are lots of different results show up which totally confuse me! I tried to put up few sites and only 1 site can rank up very well in Google, and other sites are not doing so well! Still trying to work out and find a better way to pick the right keywords!!

      Hi,

      I have got micro niche finder and market samauri and to be honest, I ignore the SOC on micro niche finder.

      You will probably do better by downloading the SEO firefox tool and then looking for PR0 sites and PR n/a sites in the top ten. If there are more than three of those, and the three have less than 100 - 150 backlinks each(and believe me, most of them have) then that will be pretty easy to rank for.

      Thanks to Clickbump for that information - that is the thread I found it on.

      Best wishes,

      Ruth

    That's a great tip! THanks!

    One more question -- shopping site such as amazon, shopping.com, price grabber, and nextag -- they are not easy to out rank right?

    Don't rely too much on the statistics. They are a tool, but your brain should make the decision. Look at the competition on the 1st page of google, there is your answer.

    I've been able to get onto the 1st page of google with a new website, while the SOC is >300

    For another key-word, I have 2 websites on the 1st page of google and 1 on the 2nd page, while the SOC is 782 ! Two of these are aged and developed sites, the one on 2nd page is a fresh website.

    You can rank, if you can compete...

    So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.
