When Is It OK To Build Links To A New Site?

So about 2 weeks ago I registered a domain for a keyword in my niche, I've got the on page SEO going pretty well, but the off page stuff I'm not sure about. So far it just has articles (submitted across 10 directories each) linking back to it, as well as a couple of links from a couple betta fish forums. I was wondering, after how long would it be ok to say, submit an article to free traffic system linking back to my site (will be dripped to 30 blogs over 15 days)... I really don't want to do things too early so I'm open to any input you might have!

ASAP....the only thing you need to avoid is anywhere that will give you a ton of links in a few days. As long as it looks natural and it is not like 200 links a day, then you can start now.

This is a good method, but if you are only talking about 15-30 backlinks a day and you have some control over it, then you can start now without it hurting you at all.

The moment your site goes live.

As for the amount of links, you can create more than 30 without getting slapped, in fact I know people here who add hundreds every day.

What matters is the quality of the links, if you add 100 low PR0-2 google will interpret that as you trying to manipulate the search results and you will get sand boxed.

    Remember, quality over quantity.

It is never too early. As soon as you have something on your site worth linking to, you should be doing so.

The only suggestion I would make is to make sure you are using some variety. If all your links come from article directories that doesn't look natural. Mix it up a bit and you should do fine.

I agree with you. The quality of links first of all. I know many websites to compare. For example:
The first - PR 4 and has about 2000 backlinks.
The second - PR 4 and has about 300 backlinks.
      How can it be?
The second one has few links from PR 3 and 4. Maybe one from 5. And the first one has tons of pr 0-1 links. Maybe 10 PR 2 and a few PR 3 links. One - PR 4.

You can see the reason. So don't spend your time makeng stupid work of searching tons of backlinks from nonquality w/s. Buy few links from PR 4 and make 10-15 simple backlinks from PR 0.

The moment my site is set up I start getting backlinks through Angela's backlinks and I submit articles to just 2 article directories - Ezinearticles and Goarticles. You don't have to wait till your new site gets indexed as some may think. By doing this the moment my new site gets indexed, I am already ranking quite well in the search engines.

I had actually wondered about this too... I would think it would look very odd to Google if you magically had a ton of high PR sites pointing to you... It seems like that would be just as suspicious as 100 low PR link-farm blogs.

basic principle of a link pyramid

          few high pr
          more medium pr

          many, many low pr

makes sense to me. Or random even. The more natural the better.

I created two sites five weeks ago. Purchase two backlink packages And one service that offered 150 links and the chap did the linking for me.

Within days the links began showing up. I now have over 200 links to each site. One went as high as #1 for two of the keywords, the other had #1 & #2 positions for a few days before dropping back to 3 and 4.

Both sites use duplicate content mixed with original and the duplicate content was gathered by an auto-blogger plugin. They are just beginning to make a little money even though they have yet to be properly monetized.

My advice: " Build them fast and get as many links as you can as soon as possible."

If google could actually "love" something, they would indeed go GAGA over that.
In fact, it happens daily. But even on Christmas Eve these myths will not die.
Get a ton of backlinks, high PR or not, ASAP. Your competition wants you to
          do the opposite.

Are programs like free traffic system ok? I have heard of a lot of good results with them but I'm not sure as to the PR's of their sites.

Yes, Free Traffic System is fine. I have about 300 articles submitted through their network.

As others have stated, don't wait. Build as many links as you can.

The day you open your site is the day you want to start backlinking.

Digg your first post or page on your site. Google loves digg and will index your page fast.

If some of your pages are already indexed then I'd go ahead and start building links to those pages slowly.

Take your time and look natural. I usually increase my link building efforts to a site the longer the site has been around. In my opinion those go hand in hand when trying to build a long-term site.

I had a site that went live 3 days ago and was indexed after a day. I build backlinks to it at a rate of about 5-10 a day and now 2 days later I am suddenly deindexed! I was using the about 2 different anchor texts for the links. Did I build them too soon?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[1535888].message }}
  • There is no problem in building links to your website if it is ready or even if it is not. People even start building links to their site when they have only bought their domain. Don't worry about time and all just consider the rate at which you are building your links. Do not make them too high which will eventually lead your website to get banned in Search engines.

I think my problem was that my site had some duplicate content. Thats why it got removed from the index? I fixed it though.. wonder how long it will take to get reindexed...

you should be able to safely build some links immediately. Just do it by hand and try to spread it out early on. Even 30 links right off the bat should be safe.

I posted a video from Matt Cutt's of Google where he states that you should get backlinks to your site to get it indexed so theres no problem with starting right away.
