Hi,

You know that way when you have gone round in circles trying to learn something then forget what you already know? I'm at that stage and my brain is kind of in meltdown, so apologies for what is perhaps a newbie level question (when I should know better).

I'm now confused at the whole subject of targeting a particular location with relevant adsense ads. I am from the UK but want to target US visitors and I have been getting confused due to confusion from another forum I am a member with.

What I would just like to know is, when publishing a website and getting indexd by google etc, when someone from say the US or Australia comes to visit my site will they see uk ads or ads from their location.

I was always of the understanding that it is the latter but then I havn't done much adsense prior to this.

There is also the matter of targeting the site to a specific location in webmaster tools, would I have to use that to target a location and have relevant ads?

I usually use google keyword tool for research and use the "all locations" setting to get global keywords but I just want to know if all countries will get ads that will satisfy their needs or if there can be only one location and set of ads for that area.

Cheers

Yves

I think google serves ads country specific, basing on the country of the visitor. Whether you target the country or not, when a visitor comes from a certain country, ads relevant to that country will be served.

yes - i get that a lot from this side here in south africa...

i can be looking at a site of any topic, an it will show me local alternatives if available....

also, i may be wrong, but i get the impression that if you select targeting in webmaster tools, your site would act as if it was from the specified area...

keep in mind that local domains tend to get preference in search results.....

so if you specify a domain to be targeted to say, france, while you live in germany, it should be favored in france - along with their local domains.

keep in mind it is only available for .com and .org domains - according to webmaster tools)

i could be wrong, but that's how i understand it.
