Are no-follow links really no-follow?

I left a comment on a blog and included one website as my name and another site in the comment.
Looking at the source of the page that my comment is on I found this part of code with my comment.

rel='external nofollow'

When I check Yahoo for backlinks to my sites I can see this website at number one as having a backlink back to my site.

So much for no-follow huh or am I interpreting this wrong?

Yahoo treats it differently.

Google will not follow the link to discover content etc. and will not "count" it in the algorithm

Yahoo will follow it and index stuff it finds , but doesn't "count" it in its algorithm

Google will do whatever they want with the tag... they crawl it and they recognize it then they apply whatever filtering they want.

  Yahoo is different from showing backlinks. Google strictly maintain do follow and no follow rules. So for getting backlinks and improving rank in Google one should post in do follow sites.

I have found that the nofollow rule is not as strictly enforced by yahoo. Google on the other hand, seems to stick right to the tag. I am not sure why that is. Google is funky like that.

rel=nofollow refers to the passage of page reputation not to a search engines' ability to not go from one site to another.

  C'mon, Google is no longer so strict to it. Nofollow can be counted as a backlink, it just does not pass any PR.
