Why can't my website outrank an ezine article?

Hi, I have a website with about 50 backlinks and based on a certain keyword. It does not appear that the competition is very tough because there are several articles from different directories on the first page of results and they do not have any backlinks. Why can't I get my site higher than the 3rd or 4th page of results? My site is about a year old now. Am I missing something? Thanks for your help.

    How long has the EZA article been up for? If its been up for a short while then chances are it will drop afte about 2 weeks, that seems to be the norm. Also, how long have you building links to the particular page in question? Has it been a year or is this something that you have started reecntly? I ask becuase if it is recently then it will take some time before your site starts to jump up the rankings. In addition, what kind of backlinks are you getting in? It may also depend on the quality of the backlinks to your site.

      The ezine article has not moved for several months in its rank for the keyword. I built some backlinks to my website about 6 months ago, stopped, and started building more recently. They are mostly from articles.

        If your site is ranked on page 3 or 4 then whats the competition like for the first page? By that I mean, do you know what PR the top 10 sites are and the average number of backlinks they have? I use SEO Plugin for Firefox to tell me this. I think your worry shoudl be the pages on the 1st page rather than the EZA article.

        Have you also tried any social bookmarking and mixing up your backlinks?

        How are you checking the backlinks for the top 10?

    Ezine is a long-established site, with high reputation and lots of backlins, so don think it is easy to outrank it in short notice.

    I got an idea... Create a Ezine Article that is optimized better for that keyword and link the article back to your site.

    Make sure your article title is provocative and eye catching. A lot of times my most successful articles (the ones with the most views and highest ctr) are articles which I compared products. For example The BlackBerry Bold vs the BlackBerry Curve - Which Is The Better Choice For You?

      How many backlinks does the page you want to rank for have?

      You need to build enough relevant backlinks for the PAGE you want to rank if you want to outrank your competition.

    Ezine is a high PR site and has been around for a time.. You should continue back linking while letting your domain age for a time.. Don't worry about outranking Ezine, rather build more back links and writer more quality contents for your site..
