I've heard conflicting advice for whether or not to allow for image Ads to display in your adsense campaign. Does anyone have any insight in to this?

One group says it will increase CTR because images are more interesting. Another says it will decrease CTR because banner ads are ignored by most people these days.

Always test everything. If you want to try image ad's then do so. You can use ClickHeat to track clicks on your sites.

I've tried image ads and had mixed success. One particular campaign (which had a very high CPC on normal text ads) did very well on them and at a very good price.

For other campaigns though the CTR was poor and I paused them after a short test.

All I can suggest is that they are certainly worth trying, once you have your normal text ads running sweetly.

I have actually been doing a little bit of testing on this. I don't have enough data yet to give a definitive answer, but so far I am seeing higher CTRs and revenue after switching to text ads only.

        Here's my tip.

If you have a top header image, do a 728x90 image only ad above it.
Then on the left side, where a "normal" navigation link menu is, do
        the large rectangle text only.

The image only ads seem to be more for a general audience. I had
trouble getting really good ads, even with the filter. So, having an
image only ad at the top makes the site look decent, and you never
know. I would normally use just 2 ad units, but why waste one? So,
the image only at the top is basically as a "why not" ad. Sort of like
a disposable ad, if you will. Can't hurt. may help.
