How effective is using Tweeter for backlinks?

Today I started using digg.com in my efforts to expand the variety of my backlinks. It remains to be seen how effective it truly is but it dawned on me that another thing I can try is to Tweet about what I am doing to build an Adsense empire.

For example I can tweet like so...

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just put up a new page at my http://www.somewebsite.com site. Have great hopes for it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Or...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just put an ezine article in the hopes of getting some traffic and increased exposure to my black tuxedo article at http://www.somewebsite.com.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That type of thing.

Has anyone tried these kinds of tweets and if so how effective have they been in getting backlinks?

Do these tweets get turned into long lasting backlinks?

If not do they at least bring the Google crawler around more often? Or cause your site pages to be indexed/reindexed faster?

I am looking to find ways to get increased exposure to my Adsense sites other than through the usual and time draining write new articles to ezine way (where they gain 90% of the benefit and walk away with my writing virtually for free).

I'll be setting up my own ezine like site to showcase my articles in the future but in the meantime I am looking for other quicker ways to diversify my backlinking strategy and the kinds of backlinks I get.

I could care less about traffic from Twitter. Quite frankly I don't want social site traffic to my Adsense sites. I am just interested in any backlink value.

Is there such value in Twitterizing like this? I won't have many if any followers and will want to keep it that way.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Carlos

Twitter 'tweets' containing links are "nofollow" so they won't pass any pagerank/link juice. For that reason they have more use as a networking tool and for driving social traffic. IMO at time of writing your time is better spent elsewhere with anything directly Adsense related.

Thanks for the confirmation of something I found out in further reading just a few minutes ago. Just how utterly useless Twitter is for gaining any backlink value.

Oh well...I will continue looking at other ways to diversify and expand my backlink building.

By the way...anybody know if the nofollow uselessness for backlinks applies to digg.com too? I just looked at their source code for a link I placed there to one of my Adsense sites has a no follow something or other in my link.
