Squidoo Backlinks Worthless Now?

Below is the html code of a link in one of the squidoo lenses that I just now created. It appears that this link doesn't go directly to my website, but goes through a squidoo page first. As I understand it from past research, this type of linking doesn't pass link juice through to my website.

Is this true?

Code:
<a target="_blank" href="http://go.squidoo.com/?id=1120X507259&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.MyWebsiteURLisHERE.com">My Keyword is Here</a>

If your link is including in the lens, consider it a backlink.

      that's not necessarily true.

      1. Some search engines still pay attention to links like that, Google is not the only search engine in town.
      2. You still get residual benefits, and that people may find a squiddo lens, and then decide to click through to your website anyways, depending on the content.

So, of course, there is still value to the actual links themselves.
My main goal though is to get my website ranked for the keyword, not to get traffic from the lense. I'll test this out and monitor things, but I'm not sure it's going to be effective.

thanks. I thought that was the case and will continue to monitor results.

Also hubpages appears to be nofollow, but I think that's cause I just now published the hub. I'm under the impression that once it's not such a new hub anymore, that it will be a follow link

You can consider hub pages another backlink, I have seen it in my personal backlinks.

Jon, thats a simple 301 redirect, right? If yes, then Google will pass link juice through, unless the redirect is marked nofollow.

What module did you use to create that link? I just checked on of my lenses and my link looks normal. My link is in the intro module. It also might have something to do with the fact that you just created it. Go back tomorrow after Squidoo has been updated and check it then.

Links in hubpages are do-follow if your account has an overal score of 75, and the hubpage itself a score of minimum 55 (the last number I'm not too sure about, can be 50 too).

Where (which module) in your lens was that link?

If you manually include a link in the text in your intro module or a text module, it will show up in the Squidoo page code exactly as you entered it - no redirect, no nofollow. Links in a "link list" module are likewaise dofollow and not redirected - at least, in my lenses they are.

What you are seeing is the new SkimLinks program that Squidoo have implemented, which collects more revenue for their Lensmasters. To make this work, Squidoo have to redirect all links to see if they are a) affiliate links and b) missing an affiliate tag. If either of these don't apply, then it will redirect to the original location without changing the URL.

It's important to realise that these links are modified automatically with Javascript, and search engines will still see your original links. Therefore, the links to your website will still be considered valuable.

    Nothing to worry about.
