Need help increasing my adsense ctr

Hey guys, I have a stock market blog running on Wordpress.
It gets a decent amount of traffic 80% from search engines. I'm doing a good job of increasing my traffic every week, adding content, getting links... The domain is also 20 months old so that helps.
My problem is my adsense ctr. It is 1% per pageview. I get about 2 page views per visit. I'd like to get 1 out of 12 or 1 out of 15 unique visitors to click on my ads, which would mean a 3-4% ctr.
At the moment I'm running a very plain theme with two large 336X280 adsense blocks right before my content.

Can anyone give me a screenshot/ example of a wordpress set up that results in a great ctr?
I realize the stock market is not going to get the 20% ctr that many product sites get, but I'll settle for 4% if I can get it.

  • I think you will find that the guys with the biggest CTR's have only 1 adsense block on a page.

Having 2 blocks, like yours, gives Google the chance of throwing up ads that are not laser targetted to your niche. Give the visitor 2 choices only, either hit the back button or click my ads.
