Different IP's / Private Whois

Hello;

I've seen it mentioned / suggested on this forum multiple times to have web sites on different IP's and private whois data.

I've have not found anyone that has really said exactly when or why they do this. I suspect the why is mostly related to google not knowing they are all your web site for linking reasons.

What I don't know is when this should be a consideration? Is this more of a black hat SEO trick or is this something that your standard by the book white hat SEO should consider as well?

Thanks,
Jamie

    This is definitely not white hat, the term "seo hosting" is a euphemism. A lot of SEO companies use these type of networks to build links to their customers. Obviously, there is great risk to their customers if they are found out.

    If you are prepared to do this, you should cover all other areas as well, including not using any other Google services such as webmaster tools or analytics. You must also not put Adsense on these sites.
