In trying to make my website more navigable I added put a couple of posts in mutliple categories that apply to the post. I was just wondering if this would in anyway effect the ranking of these posts?

Yes it's fine, just make sure you're using robots.txt to block google and other search engines from seeing the same content in multiple places which would lead to duplicate content. Any of the major seo plugins from wordpress are able to do this for you automatically.

JMO but you're creating duplicate content on your website. If you were the visitor would you like it if you clicked on the same page in different categories? Google's all about the "visitor experience".

The duplicate content problem won't happen if you're blocking Google from indexing your category pages. (this would be by default if you're using the All in one seo plugin)

Wouldn't it just be the same page but a different route to finding that page? It's like having different internal links I thought. If not I will make sure that each post is only logged in one category. I just thought it would make my site navigation a lot easier.

I have platinum seo pack. Does this do the same thing that all in one seo does? I just want to make sure that I wont be penalized for having my site set up like this.

I am not sure which you are talking about.

If you are making one post, but marking it as applicable to more than
one category, that is not duplicate content.

Making more than one post, of the same thing, and each time
putting it in a different category, that would mean more than
one post. So, if you want one post in more than one category,
just check more than one category.

Also, there would be no reason to put the post in more than
one category as far as search engines go. They don't care.
They ignore your categories, just like they ignore tags. You
cannot fool google into thinking your post is XYZ when it is
really ABC even thought you filed it under XYZ. Manipulating
categories and tags is what a real search engine (google)
          will ignore.

The content of your post will determine how it shows up
in searches. Not which category it is in. But this would have
an effect for anyone surfing around your site. Just don't
          mix the two up.

It won't effect them in any way. Well, when ever I've done this, its not helped one bit.

Like I said, it is really only for the visitors to my site. There are a few posts that I have that could apply to more than one category. For example:
Category 1 : Best Gaming Mouse
      Category 2: Logitech Miche

Now, I have a post about a logitech mouse, that I think is one of the best gaming mice. So therefore I would like it to show up in the category Best Gaming mouse and Logitech Mice. Thats all I was asking is if it would hurt my ranking by doing so. I got my answer, and that is no.

      Thanks,
