I have been learning and doing things to drive traffic to a site.

I want to ask anyone who has more ideas on how to strategically get ppl visiting your site also click on the ads?

I mean, without them clicking the ads, the traffic means nothing, right?!

Thanks!

I would recommend you try different layouts, colours, and such and see what works best.

Mix it in your content, on top of your content, in a side bar, blend the colours with your site, try colours that stick out like a sore thumb, and track what works best. I'm not sure that there is an easy answer, as sites and visitors can be very different.

nothing can make them click, just drive more traffic and your earnings will increase. unless your average click through ratio is under 3% then you may want to change some things up.

I could look at your site if you want o PM me the URL, if not i understand

    Hi Captivereef,

    Thanks for your advice.

I went to your adsense strategy site to learn more too! And sure it makes me click on the ads too

I would appreciate any comments you can provide regarding my sites.

Health & Food Room This is a start, an experiment blog...

Y's Music Room This is my own interest blog...I know it won't attract much traffic though!

I intend to learn more and then start a blog that I am really interested in and at the same time, hopefully make few bucks

    Thanks again!

Have you tried including images next to your ads?

That has worked great for lots of people I've spoken to.

I don't know if this is against their terms so look into that before you try it.

      Hi yfish,

As TheRealDomainer indicated you should focus on the quality of your content, but don't stop there, the quality of your traffic is also very important.

What good are ads if your traffic doesn't have shoppers looking to purchase something, right?

Well the number one thing to do is get more traffic to your sites. Without traffic it will be very hard to make any money from anything for that matter. Once you get traffic to your site you will want your ads place at the top of the page starting from the left since people read from the left. One tower on the top left and a square box before the fold is optimal placement. Placing images near the ads does draw attention to the ads. Be sure to place a border around images so that you don't break Google's TOS. One last thing is to make sure that the color of your ads match your website as much as possible so that they blend in and look more like a link on your page rather than an advertisement. Make sure your ads don't have borders around them either.

on your food site remove the borders and switch the side ad block to a 160x600 with all black text under the ad link and change the ad link to blue to start with and experiment from there. Right now they look spammy and scream "I AM AND AD" people will not click those.

Same for the music site, but in the music site make sure the ads blend and are not contrasting with the background.

you could also move the ad blocks up higher to the blog archive location which would make them more visible

I took a look at your diet site and think you've gotten some really good advice so far. I particularly liked the "write good" and "add pictures" suggestions. Like kuterdan said, it's a numbers game.

What are you doing to attract visitors? Have you established yourself as an expert? Is your site "sticky" enough to keep readers there reading?

Try different ad units like, 336*280 or 250*250 etc, and put them in different ad placements. Try different combinations of ad units and ad placements to see which one gives you the best CTR.

Put a large rectangle ad in your content.

Make sure the ads are above the fold.

Add a banner sized link unit under your header block.

  • Write quality content. The longer people stay on your site, the more pages they visit, the higher the chance for a click.

Thanks for all the great tips. I agree, you need a lot of content and a lot of traffic, and yeah you need the people to click on your ads. You also want a high page rank so you can be found via the search engines. This will really help drive traffic to your site.

Test, test, test. Test different ad formats (image, text, video - which gets you the higher CTR?).

Try blending your ads in to the content - try making them stick out! Whichever converts better - run with it.

Keep an eye on what ads are actually displaying on your site - use the domain filter to filter out ads that aren't applicable to your visitors.

I like using the large rectangle ad. As far as placement, I have found that no matter what the format, placing an ads unit at the bottom of my content gets a lot of clicks (of course the ads must be relevant or you probably won't get many clicks).

Joel Comm released an excellent ebook on Adsense quite some time ago, which I believe is now into its 4th edition (I brought ed 1 or 2). Perhaps more importantly, it's now free.

I paid US$97 for it back then and now it's free. Visit Make money with Google AdSense with Joel Comm's free book (not an aff link - live link direct to Joel's site) to read about his free offer. Just be aware you will be signing up to some monthly subscription service as a trial to get the book for free. Make sure you cancel if you don't want it.

His book has some excellent info in it. I have taken 2 SEO clients of mine to earnings as high as US$2000/month with what I learned from his ebook, so it works.

If you can get the info from an expert for free, grab it.

    Note what his offer says:

"If after your Free Trial you decide to remain a Top One Subscriber you will be billed $29.95 every 30 days to continue receiving Access to our Newsletter and Private Member Web Site."

... so be aware that you will get billed this money if you stay a subscriber for 30+ days. Cancel before then if you don't want it, but make sure you get his ebook on Adsense.

Good luck with your efforts - adsense DOES work, but like anything, you have to work for it AND follow the correct recipe.
