I use a 301 redirect for my domain and a couple of webpages. for my domain i did this...

www.mywebsite.com (non-existant)
redirects to
www.mywebsite.com/page1

so my question is this.....which one should i link too for SEO benefit? if i link to the non-existant page that is redirected to my actual home-page do is still get some SEO benefit?
