Direct Linking = Banned?

With Google slaping ass everywhere and affiliates going berseck... I wanted to start with IM which I have been tring on and off for past 4 yrs. Just as I was about to start my adwords direct linking affiliate campaign I see Perry marshall's and Amit Mehta's blog with ppl warning NOT to direct link.

The product I am promoting is a major product and has GREAT landing pages not those third rated products.

Any advice, within today I will start my first campaign...

  • You're probably better off not direct linking from Google anymore, they still allow it but are looking for any excuse to make more examples of unfortunate ones. You're just gonna have to do it the hard way and create a quality landing page with plenty of original content.

    Otherwise if you want to direct link to the offer page, you can still do it from Yahoo and MSN, they may eventually disable your campaign if they don't like it but they won't ban you like crazy a$$ Google.

  • thanks alot....... do u think google has different rules for different countries my campaigns are mainly catered to middle east.

    Secondly, is it legal to hide or shorten clickbank's affiliate links?

    one thing I dont understand is wont the user expereince be better WITHOUT creating our landing pages?
  • Google are slapping both direct linking affiliates and thin landing page affiliates.
    It seems that you can only run affiliate offers now with deep content affiliates sites?
  • it is probably what people are direct linking to not the direct link itself. does it say exactly anywhere on google that you can not direct link ? I don't think so. can you provide the link where the above perry / amit states it is no longer allowed ?

    According to tryinhere's link, Amit is not even sure. Surprising since he should know. This has been going on for six months. A year really. I was contacted by someone in Jan 2009 about why and what to do about her banned account. But it has accelerated in the last four months.

    There is nothing to suggest that direct linking is not allowed. In fact, quite the contrary. They explicitly say that your own page with affiliate links is not allowed. The reason is as you said yourself: the user experience will be better.

    Direct linking IS allowed and the safest way to go. Any bans involving accounts direct linking is for some other reason.

    I think Perry Marshall is wrong and doing a disservice by saying to create your own page with lots of content (point 2, third paragraph of above link). Although he does say Google and does not mention Adwords but it's implied. The Adwords rules are clear to me: affiliate links on your landing page is grounds for disapproval and ban.
