SEO ranking?

Hey guys,

I am targeting a keyword phrase, and when i type the phrase with quotations into google their are 16,000 results. How easy or hard is it to rank on first page for a phrase with this many results?

    It really depends on those top 10 results.
    If they are really well backlinked and optimized it could be very hard.

    Not that hard. A few ok links with the kw's anchor text, and changing your page's <title> should do it.

    If you give a room full of 1st graders a box of crayons how many of them can draw a car that really looks like a car?

    It's the same old thing. Who knows. If you want to figure out how hard it is you need to know who is competing with you and how entrenched they are.

    Lets say you want to rank for "Thrifty Car Rental"... and the number 1 spot is Thrifty.com and the number 2-6 are taken up by competitors with PR's on the page for the keyword you typed in of 5-6.

    Each site has thousands of incoming links and then suddenly you see at #7 is a site with a PR 0.

    Now how easy is it to rank?

    Numbers mean nothing until you dig in and really figure out who is doing what. Then you can decide if you can compete.

    You can use the free version of SEO Spyglass to look at the backlinks of the #1 site and then I like to look at #2 to see why they are beating them and #3 if I'm about to make a go at ranking for it. Look at where their backlinks are and what the anchor text is.

    Then ask yourself if you can duplicate it and in what timeframe you would like to do it in. First page is probably pretty easy - fighting up the ranks to #1,2, or 3 may just take a little more work but the #1 spot gets about 40% of the clicks so it makes a big difference hitting the #1 spot. Then look at some of the other factors - is the amount of traffic you get per day going to be worth the time or money invested into getting there?

    Basically I put my competitor under the microscope and then go after them. It works in all areas of business and sales - find out what the #1 guy is doing and duplicate it and take it a step further by learning to do it better, faster, cheaper, and in less time.

    with the questions your asking you need to develop a better understanding of SEO.

    Until you have a better understanding of SEO and how things work your not going to be able to make much use of any advise that is given to you.

    to achieve your goal to be on the top of SERPs if you're new to SEO then you need a lot of hard work and Patience. rankings deals with SEO. If you don;t know anything about SEO then your targeted keyword will never showed up in first or second page.
