My Real Top Secret Auto-Pilot Backlinking Formula Exposed. Seriously.

Warriors,

Today I wanted to share one of the MOST powerful backlinking methods
I've ever used. (And believe me, I've tried them all at one point,
and constantly trying new techniques!)

This is something that works best if you have a blog setup - and it
can work in just about every single niche under the sun. In fact,
I haven't found a niche that this cannot work in.

What this method will do for you is build a ton of backlinks to your
site with the anchor text of your choice. And best of all, most of
these backlinks will be coming from blogs and sites within your niche.

And as I'm sure you know, search engines send you a lot more love
when you have a ton of relevant backlinks to your website. They
carry a heck of a lot more weight than say getting a backlink via a
comment on a blog about kitchen tables linking back to your blog
about motorcycle helmets.

No joke, this method is worth $97 alone and I thought about creating
an entire course around this method.

It just works too damn good. In fact, with one of the blog that we
used this tactic on enabled us to get over 500 relevant backlinks
to our site - 100% on auto-pilot.

That's 500 different people... on different blogs... on different servers
all linking back to us. And best of all, they were all linking to
pages deep without our blog with the anchor text of our choice.

That blog now ranks # 1 for our main keyword.

Another blog that we've used this tactic on has thousands of backlinks
and is literally smothering the search engines.

In under a year, we got visitors from 149,241 different search terms.
Terms ranging from 2 words all the way up to 17 words. Seriously?
17 freaking words!?

Yup.

And as crazy as that sounds, 40 different people typed in that super
long-tail search phrase and landed on our site. (Yes, we rank # 1
for that crazy super long-tail keyword phrase.)

There are SO MANY different ways to spin this technique.

In one spin brought in over 20,000 HIGHLY TARGETED Twitter followers
over the course of about 7 months in a very competitive niche. Think
"weight loss" or "make money" type competitive.

So this is the real deal.

And why am I sharing this tactic to fellow Warriors?

Well, for a couple of reasons...

1. To give back to you guys. I don't post as often as I used to,
but I'm here quite a bit in the evening reading posts and checking
out WSO's.

2. Because I know a lot of you are banging your head on the floor
like we used to do trying to get tons of really valuable backlinks.
(Some so valuable that money can't even buy these babies!) So I
wanted to show you something that I know works - and works very
well - and will never ever become saturated in any niche. Ever.

3. Because I haven't been posting a lot lately due to being neck-
deep in multiple projects, I see that my "thanked" meter is running
very low over there on the left. To get thanked for posts, you
really need to provide some valuable and useful content. So, that
is my goal here today. To provide you with something of value that
you can go out and do right now.

And finally - this isn't something that just plopped into my head
this morning while in the shower. This is a real technique that
I've been using and perfecting seriously for more than a year.

So... here it is:

Overview of the tactic: A unique way to build tons of backlinks using
creative contests on your blog.

Main benefit (Traffic or SEO): Both

Estimated Cost: Hard costs if you use any of your own products to
give a way. None if donated by others. (I suggest having others
donate products for many, many reasons!)

Estimated Time Required: A quick contest can take a 15-20 minutes.
A contest where you are giving away thousands of dollars in prizes can
take several hours between creating the posts, contacting people in
your niche, setting up the content, contacting others in your niche
to promote it, etc.

Shortcut Guide: A fun method to have your backlinks automatically built
for you without having to outsource anything. This gets a lot of people
to give you a lot of link-love to your site by holding a fun contest.
You can give away your own products and services, and cash always works
great too!

And you can also get other sites in your market and ask them to give away
their products and services in exchange for publicity and links to their
sites when you display their products.

I highly suggest contacting other sites in your niche to give away some
products. Reason being is that they will also link to your content -
which will drive traffic. You'll also get a backlink from them. (Nice.)
And this is a great way to establish a great list of contacts in any
niche. This will also open the doors to tons of opportunities for you
as you get better and better running these contests.

TIP: Promote your contest on Twitter, Facebook, etc. in as
many unique ways you can think of. Dare to stand out. Dare to be
different!

TIP: Give away as much as you can and give people several ways of entering
and ways they can win. The bigger the content the better. But it's OK to
have small contests in between your larger ones to keep visitors coming
back to your blog.

In a nutshell:

1) Create Your Contest

2) Promote your contest (Twitter, Facebook, contest sites, your blog, etc.)

3) Provide instructions on how to enter. (i.e. tell them to write blog post
and have the anchor text and the link you want them to link to.) Keep in
mind that you want to be CREATIVE HERE! There are hundreds of ways to
have people enter that will give you tons of lifetime traffic benefits.

4) Rinse and repeat as your traffic increases and Twitter following grows.

IDEA: Provide a way to get 2 Entries in the contest.

#1) First way to get entered into the contest is to Twitter "I just entered
the @XXXXX contest -- check it out here XXXXX.com" to track how many people
click on your contest links from twitter, etc you can use: bit.ly, a simple url shortener or
one of the 2 WP plugins like:

Video: Twitter Friendly Links for WordPress

- OR -

"Pretty Link" plugin:
a) Free version: WordPress › Pretty Link WordPress Plugins
b) Paid Pro Version $97: Watch video URL Shortener | Link Cloaker | Affiliate Link Cloaker | Total Link Management | Pretty Link Pro

TIP: I HIGHLY suggest that anytime you can - use your own domain and make
your own 'tinyurl'. I do not suggest using any of the URL shortening
services out there if you don't have to. Many, many reasons for this.
But, a few are: brand building, tracking, and control.

#2) Have people post a link to your site on their blog (with the anchor text
you provide them of course) and then post a comment (entry) again saying
that they just linked to your site from theirs.

If you run a great contest and give a lot of good prizes, you'll wind up with
a TON of great backlinks for little work.

I've run contests from one prize to 40+ prizes worth thousands and thousands
of dollars. You can give away everything to one winner, have 3 winners, 10
winners, 50 winners, whatever.

A BIG SECRET: You can run a contest every month for a different keyword for
different parts of your website. Just set it and forget it and wind up with
tons of links from this highly leveraged effort. This is not just an idea,
it's what we do in one of the niches we're in and it's responsible for over
5,000 page views PER DAY on that site.

So that's it in a nutshell.

The great thing about this method is that there are 10,000 different ways
to put this into action. There's no real set roadmap on how to run a full
contest. However, I will tell you this. The more creative you get, and
the more you're willing to step out of your comfort zone, the more attention
your contest will attract and the more visitors you'll get.

So try it out - it's fun. It works. And best of all, it costs a whopping
$0.00 when you have others donate products to give away.

Hope you enjoyed!

I forgot to include the above screenshot in the post above to
show you the power of this method.

This is a screenshot of my Google Analytics account from July
1st to July 31st 2009. And it's from one of the blogs that I
use the contest backlinking method on.

I know the image is a bit small, but on the pie chart, it says:

    - 47,352 visits from search engines

    - 13,552 visits from referring sites

    - 9,877 direct traffic

The majority of the visits from new sites are from blogs/sites
of people who entered one of the contests run this month.

Although search engine traffic still beat out the number of
referring visitors, that's still an extra 13K visitors. And not
just any visitors - these are HIGHLY targeted visitors who are
    very active in this niche.

When you put this backlinking method into practice, over time
you'll see that your search traffic will continue to increase
    month after month.

This is because of the number of highly relevant websites/blogs
backlinking to you with the anchor text of your choice. That
carries a TON of weight in the search engines eyes.

So if you're hungry for traffic, want a ton of highly relevant
backlinks all pointing back to the page of your choice with the
anchor text of your choice - I promise this technique works.
    BIG TIME.

In fact, I'm getting ready to launch another brand new blog in
another very competitive niche. Hell, I'll even tell you which
niche it's in... it's weight loss.

95% of my energy (and my outsourced energy) will go into
using this one technique to drive traffic and backlinks to this
    brand new blog.

It's just a fun little test.

I'm spending a max of 15 minutes a day on this little project.
My goal is to go from 0 to 10,000 backlinks in 5 months and
attract 400,000 visitors from the day I launch my first contest.

There are three brand new advanced methods I've come up
with that I believe will go hand in hand with this technique...
which is why I want to test it out. If they work, I should get
at least 3 times the numbers I'm shooting for above. If they
work, I'll be sure and let you guys know.

So go out there and DO THIS!

    - It costs $0.00 to get it going.

    - You can get a contest going in as little as 10-15 minutes.

    - The traffic and backlinks will last a lifetime.

    - It's fun.

    - It forces you to take a little action that you can then use
to take even more action. Those little baby steps is all it
takes to walk - and before you know it, you're sprinting in
    the Internet Marketing fast lane!

    Enjoy!

Great suggestion, I've (almost) tried the Bill McIntosh WP contest plugin before but never got around to launching it.

This gives me more encouragement to get off my ass

  • If you are going to buy a product Ninja Affiliate has better options than pretty links pro in my opinion. You can also hot link any keyword.

Great post. I've been wanting to do a contest for quite a while now but haven't gotten around to it.

What about submitting your contest to contest websites?

    Thanks!

Yes, you can submit to contest websites if you want to -
it'll bring a bit more traffic. However, I've stayed away
form submitting to the contest sites so I wouldn't expose
my niches to others using the same tactic.

    thanks.

I would like to have a photo contest of sorts. This would relate to my site, have you ever done this?
I'm wondering how to receive photos safely and securely, also how would I know they're original? maybe a disclaimer or something....
    your thoughts.

I've never done a photo contest - so I'm not sure about
receiving photos safely or securely - or know if the photo
      is original. Sorry!

What are contest sites? How do they work?
