Indexing Worries, Again

Every time i make a new site i am getting worried if the indexing is delayed.

I made a new site about a week ago with the first article on it on Jan, 8th.

I already bookmarked and SEOed the **** out of it, i submit RSS feeds, stat blasted the site, have articles on Goarticles and Articlesbase, Yahoo answers, bookmarked it on a lot of sites, bookmarked single articles, digg, reddit and whatnot.

I did everything my SEO knowledge tells me, i have a few unique articles on there but was going to wait adding more content until its indexed.

Its now 5 days ago since i put the first article on there and i can find my links already on quite some places on the net - BUT STILL NOT INDEXED.

Starting to freak out really since i am at wit's end with this.

    I had the same issue with a .info domain. I done everything in my power to make sure i get indexed but it took 12 days or so. Not too sure why.

    When i do this with .com domains i tend to get indexed very quickly but for the .info it took ages.

    Is yours a .com or .info domain?

      I notice a lot of marketers are using that strategy. What it does is just keep repeating "look at my site". If you are worrying about indexing again and again, change the strategy you are using.

      I upload a new site with at least 10-15 full pages of good content, submit a few articles and then add new content to the site daily - and the sites are indexed rather quickly. After they are indexed I start doing the other stuff you list above to start work on ranking the site.

      My feeling is that indexing will happen - whether its fast or slow it will happen. What is most important is moving the site up and getting traffic after its indexed.

      I don't claim to be an SEO expert but when I upload a site it totals at least 25 pages and usually more when it is launched. Larger sites are often indexed in as little as a few hours and others show up in a couple days.

      Point is - if what you are doing is not working as you want it to, change what you are doing and see if that works better.

  • Depending on the content of the site you built, I also use commenting on major news channels to get decent spider attention. I also target web2.0 magazines that are available for the niche and offer enough traffic flow for the effort.

      Well, here's the scoop on your domain, at least my best guess as to what you're seeing. Your domain was previously owned during 2008 and used as a thin affiliate site. The previous owner did something of a dark nature that got the site deindexed and they dropped the domain, a common thing on the dark side. The domain was deleted but the penalty deindexing flag remains in Google's databases (so much for the theory that Google actively tracks domain registrations, right).

      So, today, you've registered what you think is a brand new domain but, it really isn't. It has a history and not such a good one. Since you've already registered it with Webmaster tools, request reinclusion, explaining that you're the new owner blah blah blah. Make sure your content is squeaky clean and can withstand a strong visual inspection. You should get reincluded within about 1-3 months, maybe sooner if you're lucky.

  • It takes 1 month for google to update their database, so dont panic. Just keep on building backlinks, as long as you dont spam anyone
  • I am getting desperate, i NEVER had a site taking 7+ days simply to get indexed. NEVER. Needless to say i add content now, i bookmark and do/did everything mentioned in the thread. I am putting my link in here now Weight Loss although i bookmarked and submit it already at any known place to men..maybe google picks it up from here.

      I wonder if the slowdown might be due to it being so close to another url that is already online. Don't know if that would delay indexing.

  • As an experiment a few weeks back, I bought several domains based on reasonably popular keywords with low to average competition in the top 10 of Google. My experiment was to throw in around 5 articles per domain and just ping them to pingomatic every time a post is made.

    The full results of this experiment will go up on my blog when I eventually find the time. After 4 days, all of them had every post indexed in Google albeit varying in ranking quite wildly. Most of them were in the top 100 however, with the best post at number 8 in Google.

    On the strength of this and the post from bgmacaw, I wouldn't worry. I have certainly proved to myself conclusively now that it is possible to get a good keyword domain with all the right on-page SEO indexed in Google with no real promotion.

  • I find there has never been any uniformity ...sometimes one hour sometimes a week...and yeah info is a bit longer...quite certain.

  • That's the last thing you should worry about! It will drive you crazy. SEO is a process it is not something that happens instantly and yet sometimes it takes 8 - 14 days to get indexed.

    Just concentrate on creating good high quality content, build links in the right pace and you'll be fine.

    Besides if it happens to you time after time and you get indexed anyway then why worry?
  • I am "concerned" since i do the usual SEO, nothing "black", but still never know whether this or that i am doing is getting my site(s) into trouble. Because w/ Google you never know. Does submitting to a bunch of social BM sites get me in trouble? If i leave a bunch of comments "too early"...does it get me into trouble? I am promoting an affiliate program..does it get me into trouble? Things like that. Just the usual paranoia
    Anyway i filed a reconsideration request.
  • since the content on the "new" site is literally 1:1 identical to the site which never got indexed...makes you wonder why on earth does google not take the penalty (from the former owner of the domain) away if a domain has a new owner?

    That old site had one pciture and the rest were affiliate banners, so i told google i am the new owner, i made a totally new site on that domain....inclusion request...nothing. Doesnt make too much sense.
  • I think you are overdoing it. You need a few quality links and some content and then chill. I recently did a test on this with a new domain, I put about 4 backlinks on it and it was indexed within 48 hours. Once the bot crawls from a high authority site it records what it finds. If your on page content is optimized then you will see results. If it visits 200 times more and doesn't like what it sees then theres no real benefit.

    I'm not going to tell you that you get penalized by Google long term for overdoing it. I don't think thats the case but we have to realize google couldn't care less if a new site gets indexed fast. Perhaps it sees some dodgy activity and has a subroutine that just puts those sites in time out until the site shows something undetermined.

    Because I used the site as a test of some principles I took my time (week between changes at least) and low and behold its been one of my easiest sites to rank.

    • And I'm sure you've checked this but just in case as I haven't seen anyone mention it - the default on some versions of wordpress under the privacy settings is "I would like to block search engines." You won't get indexed ever with that set

    • in this case, the domain had a penalty since the old owner had a horrible site on it and probably also did some bl@ckhat stuff. It simply irked me i didn't get the penalty removed as new owner with a 100% different site.

      As for "overdoing it"...yes usually i am careful, i run it through bookmark poster..maybe tweet, thats it. I dont do "serious" link building on a brand new site.
      But with the old domain,...it was just obvious that it simply didnt get indexed, even with a couple EZA/goarticles. (I didnt build hundreds of links, just some bookmarking and the articles. Enough to make sure it gets indexed.)
