Ok I set my budget at Google for my PPC campaign. Let us pretend it is $5 per day.
But in the accounts section there is a charge for $6 for one of the days, $1 for another day etc.

Does Google take the AVERAGE or am I doing something wrong?

Also should I set a budget for CONTENT PPC or is it best to stick with SEARCH?

Thanks so much!

Yes. It's mentioned in the documentation somewhere. They average it out over 30 days. You may pay $1 over your limit one day but when that 30 day period is over, your average will be at or below your daily budget.

If you think the content network could be profitable for you, set up a separate campaign where you do ONLY content and the other campaign is search only.

I have never done PPC before...just tried it because of the free coupon. So just to clarify...
Is Search when someone types in a search term and content on say a blog?

And does search tend to be more profitable?

Thank you so much for answering about the average costs per day!

Also I have heard, that say there is a fair amount of traffic around your keyword. Google then can go over your daily budget one day and then as you saw cut it back the next..

It happened to me only a couple of times, I then emailed them and they explained this too me...

Don't ask me how they new the next day was going to be a low traffic day though....haha

Yep, but I think it will be mostly on when people search through google.com (.uk, etc)

Search can be more profitable if you're just starting out, because you can have more control on your campaigns.
Content can also profitable if you know how to do it, such as site targeting, image ads, etc.

    My 2 cents

    > Is Search when someone types in a search term and content on say a blog?

Yes, search is when someone does a search on Google. Content are websites showing ads on their pages.

That's why you should have separate campaigns. They are different and behavior is different. In search, you are pulling. In content, you are pushing.

    > And does search tend to be more profitable?

It can be since you are pulling. They search for something and you are offering. They may already be in a buying mood. In content, you are more like a TV commercial. You may get clicks from the curious. That's why your ads should be different.

The content network can be as profitable if not more than the search. It's just a bit more difficult. It will depend on a lot of factors, including the product. Most of the campaigns I manage for clients don't use the content network. Either I think it's not worth it for what they sell or it was tried with little success.

Content Network is hugely profitable, don't let anybody tell you it's not. Also Google may tend to go over your budget just to give you the best results. Depending on the campaign you should split test Content Network & Search, but with some obvious campaigns you should know whether you use the Content or Search.

I do not know alot about PPC obviously, but the free coupon pulled me in and sales actually took place I do believe these sales are from the PPC because when I stopped the PPC for a week...sales stopped but how can I tell for sure?

So to split test would I set up two separate campaigns with the same words etc. And then how do I tell where the sale came from.

    BTW Lucid...thanks for this

This really helps clarify things for me.

    Thanks!
