General Question???

I have a small network of sites that are all basically in the same niche. I have decided to compile all of these into one large site.

My question is if I remove all of these sites and add the content from them to the new site will the content be considered to be duplicate?

My plan was to remove all of the sites and wait until google crawls them again and sees that there is nothing there. Then I would add all of the content to the new site. Any advise?:confused:

  • Yep, pretty much what secretjustin said. 301 redirects are your best bet.

    • I agree with the above posts that you should look into 301 redirects. Aside from that the penalty for duplicate content seems to be different if you post duplicate content on the same site or different sites. Seems to be worse on same site.
  • thanks alot. One other question. Will the sites that are being redirected to the main site benefit from the pr of it as a regular page within the site would?

    • Theoretically, a 301 redirect lets everybody (including and especially search engines) know that this website has moved to whateverdomian.com.

      So, everything from those websites that are being 301 redirected, including authority (not necessarily the exact PR, but the same "authority"), is passed on to your new domain that you are redirecting TO.

      Somebody correct me if I am wrong...
