What you DON'T know about the Google Keyword Tool!

Hi there,

I see there are 2 different Google keyword tools, both showing huge difference in monthly search results (yes I have it set to exact)


1# https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
2# Search-based keyword tool


just one example is a keyphrase i search on both one showing 880searches, and #2 only showing 60searches? Which one is right?

    Quickly checked a couple of keywords that I rank for. (and know how much traffic I get from the particular keyword)

    One keyword gets 6600 searches per month in the external tool, and according to the search based tool it gets 1500 searches per month. Ranking #4-5 for that keyword I'm getting around 120 visitors per day. Same results with another keyword I checked.

    Would appear the search based tool is way off...at least for these 2 keywords.

      I tend to use the external keyword tool... it is interesting to here some of the results though...

      Seeing that the search results were way off, is pretty interesting... Like someone said their is no 100% accurate keyword tool, but you would expect a bit more accuracy from Google....

      They know everything else about us, but they can't get keyword search results a bit more accurate...hmmmmm

      interesting thread though guys I will take a look at a few of my keywords and get some results back..

    I'd like more responces to this, I know most people use the external keyword tool but its having me worried now, as the other tool shows significantly less monthly search result figures.

    It's kind of like wordtracker and their results being way off too.
    So, Google external tool shows kws per month based on their SE traffic (60% of web traffic or is it more?)
    There are a lot of times I get more traffic from Yahoo for a large niche.
    I'd like to know is there an AS earning estimator tool for how much a site is making.

    I use the external keyword tool but then usually take a zero off the end of the results. 1000 is usually more like 100. Sometimes more, sometimes inexplicably less.
