Test Methodology Question? autoblogs

Another thread about autoblogging got me thinking about how the best way to test the whether or not the duplicate content on these sites is the reason some people cannot get pages ranked or if there are other factors involved.

Here is my tentative game plan please poke holes in it or give me some additional ideas. The idea is to get as good a result as possible without having to spend so much time on it that it interferes with my money making activities.

I plan to find a long tailed keyword with low competition that is part of a big enough niche that I will be able to get the generate content on a daily basis. Will also be in a niche where there will be other keywords I can add later on to actually monetize the sites so they do not go to waste.

Build two identical sites base on wordpress and set them up exactly the same. I will setup one category for the posts with the name being the keyword I am testing.

Give each one the same domain name with a random number after it.

longtailedkeywordone.com

longtailedkeywordtwo.com

Blog one will have generated content from day one at the rate of one post a day.

Blog two will have 7 unique posts geared towards the main niche keyword but not the specific keyword I am testing. These will be posted one a day for the first week and then switch over to generated content.

Each site will get the same number of backlinks from the same exact sites using different accounts on the sites. I will use the keyword I am testing as anchor text as much as possible and since the links are going to be from the same sites the percentage should be the same for both.

Thinking of doing one backlink for each new post for first month.

During the second month stop backlinking the new posts and backlink the first seven posts on each blog at the rate of two a day.

During the third month move to backlinking just the first post at the rate of five a day.

Seems like this should isolate the unique content factor as much as possible as all the other aspects of the site should be exactly the same.

Thoughts? Ideas? Something I am missing?

Thanks
Richard
