Hi folks,

It's never my intention to beat a dead horse (because that's annoying.. and painful) but when it comes down to niche keyword research it's obvious everyone has their own methods and ideas that work well for them: Quotes, without quotes, allintitle, # searches a month divided by how many times they've used the bathroom since noon, etc etc. And that's perfect- more to experiment with.

The common thread I've seen almost all people agree upon no matter what their methods are is the top ten google results. I understand the importance of these pages and generally what to look for in determining my competition- backlinks & quality, pagerank, age, content..

But what I get hung up on is seeing amazon at the top. Is this easy to outrank if I am promoting an amazon product (keeping in mind I already determined it's a high search, low comp niche)? Or will I generally be stuck directly under amazon when said and done? What about the 10 sponsored links I see? Do these trump the top ten 'natural' results and mean greater comp?

Basically.. what do you look for in the top ten to give you the green light, when promoting amazon or otherwise?
