How to climb the ladder?

I have recently created a new mini niche website. It quickly got indexed and is on page one of google. However it is in position #9, i want to get higher. I have started a backlinking campaign and have over 50 backlinks already. After looking at the sites in front of me, none of them have that many backlinks going to there page. And none of them are optimized for that keyword.

My question is once ranked, what can i do too continue climbing? I have started a mini un-closed link wheel. Have not seen much come from it. I am open for all suggestions!

Quality of links matters a lot.
Someone might have 1 quality link and it will beat quantity hands down.

Also links from forum profiles, tagging sites, junk directories etc.. - even though they might be do-followed are close to being worthless.
In other words any backlink that anyone could create himself - carrying very little value.

So to answer - build quality links from places other people can't

Quality back-links matters a lot. Also in-content link (back-links) are of greater value..
