Essentially this is Google's way of determining the relevance quality of a post, article page. Computers can't really understand language like Human's can so looking for context and synonyms along with the actual keywords helps Google to identify what it considers a good article.
Bottom line for webmasters is that an article or post can have a lot more to do with just the actual keywords. So it seems it can pay off to have a well written article not just dropping the keywords in various spots.
