SEO Domain Registration Question

I am looking at a domain name that I would like to use and have noticed that the .com is used but the .net and .org are available.

What are your thoughts on if I were to grab one of the other two that are available? Do the search engines care more about the .com or can I do just at well with SEO when it comes to .net or .org?

    I do not believe the Search Engines discriminate by top level domain. People might, but as far as I know SEs do not.

    I have seen SEO reports that claim .org is favored by the search engines. But there are many other factors that sophisticated engines like google also take into account like: age of the domain, whois info, inbound and outbound links, etc.

    I think the overall belief that .com domains rank higher is a big myth. As long as you have a keyword rich domain, that's all that matters, and your other SEO work will come into play then. What does make a difference is that people almost automatically tend to type in .com at the end of a domain, and it does seem to have a better reputation in many people's eyes. If this is going to be your main website where you showcase your best products and services, then you probably would want to get a .com.
