Linking To Other Websites - Important!

There's something I've noticed recently that top ranking websites in niches I aim to rank for are doing

When they use web 2.0 properties and feeder blogs .. they are making sure to have a diverse EXTERNAL linking portfolio as well(from those pages)

For example: A squidoo lens created to link to the money page also links to an EDU or GOV page or in some cases even a WIKI page.

To me.. this looks like a good startegy since it shows Google that the places you are getting links from aren't pages you've created. Imagine a scenario where all of your web 2.0 pages link to you! Wouldn't this be an easy way for Google to see that these were created by YOU!

This is a new thing I've been noticing from successful rhigh ranking websites! Let me know what you guys think..

    Hi Davioli

I am not sure this is new at all. Linking out to valuable websites and information is very good for the valued of your own website.

e.g. I recently linked one of my niche websites to the BBC website as they had good info in the niche. There was a noticeable jump in visitors following this.

The internet is a "net". If search engines find your website only has incoming links I think they look on it poorly. - Its not part of a net at all. It is just self serving.

Linking out makes your site look more natural, not like your trying to hoard pagerank and linkjuice. Just make sure you link ONLY to legit sites and preferably in your niche.

Always link out to a high PR page on-topic. It increases you topical relevance and makes your site look more like a "hub".
