Come on then spill the beans. Whats the best linking strategy?

Hi Everyone,

This post is not about where you get your links from, however how and what those links should point to on your website. So here is my kunundrum.

I have a site called www.dogtraining.com(I dont really own this site - Just an example!) I am using a wordpress blog and my home page is all related to Dog training, and mainly focusses on the keyword "dog training".

To compliment this keyword, I have found the following secondary keywords which do not have to much competition and are searched around 200 times per month.

Dog training programme
How to train your dog
Dog training techniques
teach your dog to sit

For each of these keywords I create one 500 word article and post each on my blog, they are all SEO'ed and keyword specific. I then book mark each page.

I then duplicate those same articles for each of those keywords and submit them to the main web2.0 sites and article directories. The only difference with the mass submitted articles, is I have a link going to one of the other post on my blog. So in effect creating deep links to my website ages(Noob alert...I think thats the correct term!)

So anyway, two months later when I search for one of my secondary keywords, my site never shows up until several pages into google. However, my duplicated content does! Sometimes on page 1.

So here are my questions are,

1.Is Deep linking really worth it?
2.Should I just target all my duplicate article links to my home page?
3.Should I just direct all links to my home page, even my secondary keyword links?

I would really like to know what you all think and if you have any strategies that are working for you.

Do you modify the blog post any at all when posting them to the web 2.0 sites?

Press releases work well for me.

I find a "shocking discovery" in my niche, put my own spin on it and send it out, with a few anchor text links (one in the first paragraph and one next to my call to action at the end).

Forums, webmasters, bloggers, news agencies pick up on the story, repost it or report on it, with my pen name/site as the source for breaking the news.

This is great because it covers all the main bases of a good backlinking strategy, and links come from quality sites who are often an authority and have high PR.

  I must admit I have not tried press releases. I will go look into it. Is it easy to get articles accepted?

  I would recommend rewriting content, you should atleast have unique content for your blog
  
  I do the follow
  
  Create a article - Spin it 20 times
  
  * Make post on Blog
  * Submit to top 10 article directories
  * Create 10 Web2.0 sites
  
  I have them linking to other pages except my main index page, normally I will have a post concentrating on a certain set of keywords and articles relating to this will link to that post.
  
  I will also do some blog commenting on relevant websites.
  
  I dont think there is a link strategy that is the best, a combination of them all would be ideal

  That sounds like a good strategy. So basically the content on my blog would be original, and the re-written content is what can be duplicated across the web2.0 sites.

  yeah, It is important to have original content on your website.
  
  you can also use a spinning software to spin one article into many, this making all articles you post on web2.0 sites to be unique. That is however up to you

The only thing wrong I can see with this is that you said that you link to other deep pages of your blog. You should link to the source post instead linking to other pages, then because all that pages from article dirs and 2.0 pages will be pointing to your orig post on your blog. SE will consider that page as the main source and will be in front of the other duplicate content pages in SERP's. This is from my experience.

Yes, but done the right way.

2.Should I just target all my duplicate article links to my home page?
No, oint that links to your orig article in your blog + mix anchor text in that links and if you have two links in that article or authors bio one you can use for home page, but not always.

3.Should I just direct all links to my home page, even my secondary keyword links?
No, definitely NO.

  Lioncirth - I have a spinner, however I am not sure how effective spinning really is. Most of the articles look very similar in my experience and I am sure google can detect this.

Nemanja - If you have the same content on article sites linking to the same post on your own site, would this look unatural to both google and the user. You end up clicking on a link that takes you to the same article, surely that will put off the potential customer. Where as if they are going from one article on to a different one, which is related, this would be the customer engaged for longer.

Yes, maybe for some customers it will be, but I tought that we are speaking about SEO point of view. For the SE's this will be just a "vote" for your orig article/post in your blog.

I mainly do it this way:
I write article on some topic, then post that article to my blog, SB it, after a day or two I submit article to art dirs & 2.0 sites and I put two links one is pointing to the source article for SEO purpose, and one to my sales page for that certain product/service I was writing about or that second link goes to the home page if I don't have the product to promote.
Also I put links pointing to the sales page in my orig post on my blog, to direct some "LOST" customers to my sales page.

Unless you are trying to get the article in the article direcotry to rank in SERPs, it doesn't matter if it is a duplicate of the version on your site so don't bother with spinning which can be detected most of the time anyway. You still get the linkjuice from the article directory site and from any sites that pick up their RSS feed for SEO of your site.

It does all depend on how you spin it, many people will have an article of say 450 words and will spin a couple of words such as big, large etc and this will do them. Doing this will ultimately result in articles that look the same.

I tend to write every single sentence, therefore I have 2 articles that are of the same subject/title but very different and blend the two to make unique articles. I have spun 100 and was unable to find one which was similar to another as every sentence is mixed up

When linking back to my site I will link to a page that is based around them articles for example;

I have a blog post about teaching a dog to sit, I will then create the articles based on teaching a dog to sit and will link back to this post. Doing this will help strengthen that page and the keywords for that post/page.

It is true I do not believe it is harmful using the same article on your web2.0 sites, I just prefer to use unique ones. Just make sure your posts on your blog are as unique as you can possible get them

I must admit, I am still not sure on the idea of submitting an original article to your blog, and then submitting that same article across article directories and web 2.0 sites, having that duplicate article linking to the original post on your blog. Will this not be seen by google and spammy? Maybe I am missing the point!

  I would have a complete unique article for my blog. Ill show you some examples;
  
  Article I post on blog: 10 Top Tips To Teach Your Dog To Sit
  
  Now I will create (from scratch) a second article, this would concentrate on one of the 10 tips that I had in my post. I would create a 300-400 word article and then be prepared to spin it. To do this I would not change simple words (as this tends to sound rubbish) but entire sentences, for example;
  
  One way to help your dog sit is to show the action of sitting with your hand and arm, when you say the command sit move your hand from their nose down to the ground. By doing so your dog will slowly begin to understand where they should be going.
  
  I would then use a spinning software, highlight the entire sentence and put in the following;
  
  In order to help show your dog where you wish him to go, hand movements can be used. The moment you say sit move your hand down from your dogs head to the ground, this should keep his focus and after several attempts he should follow your hand down.
  
  This means that every time I spin this article, that sentence will randomize and the 1st and 2nd example will be used in different articles. Now if I was to rewrite every sentence like this, I will continue to have unique articles that have been spun.
  
  ** Please ignore my example as I know NOTHING about training dogs **
  
  Therefore I would have a complete unique post for my site, and a complete article that can be spun a 100 times and be unique.
