Article Spinners - it broke! Do I just write em?

I wanted to try one out and unfortunately it broke on me, I wont name it cos it looked good and the publisher hasn't had the chance to get back to me.
I'm trying with out too much success to get one site (second one to follow soon) into the first page of results. I'm setting up a linkwheel, the first post/blog is up and I need more content for the subsequent spokes.
I suppose with the two sites I'd need a total of say 20 articles one wheel per site plus a few spare.
Is it worth messing with spinners or should I just say dedicate 45mins per day and get writing? That at least would be 100% unique.
