I have both, and they are nearly identical honestly. Think I like the most about hostgator is having a reseller account which comes in handy if you have multiple sites that you eventually sell.

Other than that, don't switch unless you just want too. You're not gaining one thing from the next, and like you said the pricing itself is very close to the same as well.

Based up on my experience, I have to say HostGator is the deal. I have 9 shared hosting accounts with different companies for my sites and so far HostGator has given me almost 100% uptime and one minor issue that was fixed almost immediately in the 3+ years I have been with them.

Another quick question... I usually buy my domain's from bluehost (just for convenience), and with the added privacy it costs about $15/domain. Any suggestions for cheaper domain purchases, and if I purchase elsewhere, can it be easily (and quickly) be transferred to Bluehost.

To be honest, you really can't go wrong with HG. Their support & uptime are fairly decent for a large 'overseller'.

Forget them both and go with SEO Host, which Hostgator owns by the way.

I use HostGator (since Fall 2007) and have been satisfied so far. If you're not having any issues with your current host though, you may just want to "leave well enough alone", as the saying goes.

I always get my domain names and hosting from separate companies. That way, if you want to change hosts you're not at the mercy of your current host. YOU control your domain name.

I am very biased towards Site5. I've been using Site5 exclusively for around ten years and couldn't be happier. My friend had BlueHost and was miserable with lots of downtime but he switched to Site5 and was happy, too.

I use IGXHost to host my site. I highly recommend them. Theyre on it in an instant if you got anything bad popping up. And I got a monster site and yet they are so patient!!!

I will badmouth Bluehost for the rest of my online career. I used bluehost for about 5 months and had a bad experience. I'm not the only one. Bluehostsucks.com.

Every week, and I'm not exaggerating, every week, my site was down for hours at a time. The last straw was like a 48 hour downtime.

On top of that, I occasionally had really long load times. I'm talking like 12 to 15 seconds. I called tech support to ask them why my site was taking so long to load and they told me it was related to my database. I didn't believe them because my hosting was running 5 adsense sites with a total of 20 posts on them and minimal plugins. The tech support guy then proceeded to talk down to me when I asked for his supervisor and told me that I didn't know what I was talking about and a bunch of other disrespectful things.

So then I talked to a different tech support guy who told me someone on my shared hosting account was sucking up all the bandwidth.

Moral of my story. Don't use bluehost ever!

I have accounts on both. As others have said, they are nearly carbon copies of each other with a few exceptions.

For whatever reason, I find myself gravitating more to HG than BH and recommend all my offline clients there as well. Nothing against BH, its just a feeling I have that gives HG the edge that makes me more comfortable recommending it.

Since you already have BlueHost, my recommendation would be to keep your existing stuff there and give HG a shot for your new projects.

I have been with HostGator for several years... my only suggestion is Do Not use the online chat... they are slow and rude. If they are working with you they may be working with several other persons. I have learned to call in to the 866# and have Great Success then and very quick to resolve all my issues. BlueHost I am not sure of I switched to a reseller account and didn't get to use the customer service at BH.

I like hostgator; they have a tendency to think out of the box a bit & are continually trying to innovate with one-of-a-kind features & more persona than other hosts. However I have heard usually lovely reviews about all six that you mention.

Both have been great for me. I would go with bkuehost simply because its cheaper.

Ive been with Hostgator for some time now, and I cant compare it to bluehost but from what I see, tons of affiliate marketers are heavily promoting Hostgator.

If the only reason you want to move to HG is because you hear everyone saying it's good, that's pointless. If your happy with your current host, then there isn't really much point in changing hosts, you won't be saving any money, just wasting time and causing headaches

I use Go Daddy for domains and hostgator for Hosting... It's a good combination, however, you can get cheap domains easily by search, and then it's a simple matter of pointing nameservers to your hosting account...

I am using HostGator for an year now. I feel it is really good value for money spent.
I recieved excellent support from them on few installation problems.

I am using Bluehost and it is great. I think they just had (admittedly) problems several years ago, that is why there were so many negative comments on Bluehost. But now, i think their system has improved already.. and i am very satisfied.

They are both fairly similar. Some people just have good luck with one host. Other times you just happen to be put on a server that is either overloaded or a few sites are hogging the resources. If you do not have any issues or complaints about your current host then there really is no need to switch just for the heck of it. You might regret it and end up switching back. If at some point you do have issues, complaints, or problems then I would think about switching. If you are happy and content keep what you got for now. Depending on what kind of site or sites you have it can also be a real pain moving everything over, and updating to reflect the new host.

These hosting companies seem to have a good wrap over all, but to be honest, I am rather surprised that they offer so much so cheap. Like unlimited domains, hosting space and file transfers. I am looking for a host for a site with target accidence in Australia, do these host have servers in Aust or near? Well, that makes me look like I know what I am talking about, opps , I mean, are they fast in Australia? I am thinking of including hosting with my next website, have it on one of these Unlimited domains and charge monthly hosting and consolidate my other sites here to.

I switched from Bluehost to HostGator about a month ago because I needed VPS. Bluehost doesn't have VPS and HG does.

HG transferred all my sites for me. It was relatively painless. I pay a lot more each month, but I was being throttled by Bluehost and needed to switch. Glad I did. HG is good.

If your sites have little traffic then they are ok. They seem to be stable. their customer support seems to be good. but as soon you install labour intensive wordpress sites with average amount of plug-ins and lots of traffic then they will shut you down. I ve experienced it time and time again. The way they advertise their packages eg. 'unlimited bandwidth' is completely wrong.

I have both. They are basically identical. I tend to favor HostGator by a slight margin, not sure why, just a feel.

It can be a good practice to diversify your hosting footprint once you reach a large number of sites on one server, if only for the sake of limiting your exposure to server failure.

Back in 2005 I chose to do my work using Hostdepartment reseller plan with Hsphere control panel and I kept it till 2010 when I was running Hostgator reseller plan (USA), Webbase reseller plan (New Zealand data center) and Locaweb (Brazilian data center) all together. I had opportunity to manage them from different locations: Los Angeles, Auckland (NZ) and Sao Paulo (BR). Hostgator was the winner to manage and access its control panel, page loading time and overall performance in all the locations. As result after a period of time I decided to go Seohosting (Hostgator) with a set o different IPs.

Hostgator is very effecient to use for me. I've been setting up websites using this hosting and encountered no problem with it.

If you want my opinion, I am on HostGator and their support is 1st class act. I am not very technical and they sort it out for me even if I ask for things that I should do myself. Very good.

Have been building sites for almost 3 months and I used hostgator for all those sites. It works well for me.

I have had my hostgator account (shared) for a while (over a year) and had a couple of issues that got resolved quickly and efficiently with support. However, I am not too pleased with the performance. Living in Switzerland the ping return trip is some 200 plus milliseconds, which is normal for overseas traffic, however I get really slow build up of websites. If I compare same sites built on coolhandle, hostgator sites are really much much slower.

Everyone seems to be saying it's pretty much the same regardless of which one you are at. The true test of a provider is often how they handle things when there are problems. I can't speak to Blue Host but I can share my experience with Host Gator. I've been with HostGator for quite some time but almost left recently due to some server instability issues. What kept me at Host Gator in spite of the problem was the technical support they provide. This is the one thing that really makes Host Gator stand out. It all eventually worked out when Host Gator moved me to a different server so all's well that ends well but Host Gator's support reps are amazing and are really what has kept me with Host Gator. If you get the same from Blue Host, there would be no reason to switch but if you are unhappy with the tech support you receive, Host Gator might be the place for you.

HostGator is cheap and really customer friendly. Any time I have a problem I can either live chat with them (and they're really great at solving my problems fast) or calling them (which does take longer) but HostGator is really great at customer service. I have used them for years with no problems.

I've been with HostGator for 6+ years. They USE to be top notch, but the past 6 months or so they have become down right HORRIBLE. I am shopping for a new hosting provider as I type this. They forced me to upgrade my package to a $89 VPS server from the reseller because their servers can't handle 4,000 daily visits. Since upgrading to the outrageously expensive VPS server, the downtime has been overwhelming. I made a ticket and they asked me to monitor something or another and get back to them. What?!?!?!??!! I pay them $90 a month so I can try and troubleshoot their servers problem??? Do they want me to clean their office and answer phones too? Why not put me on a new server???

My 2 cents - I love my indy web host ($8 a month). I found them through awesome customer reviews on their service. I've been using them for a few years & have yet to want to scream during problem resolution. They respond within minutes (24-7), All American, & most importantly they are always spending the extra $ on server upgrades for faster speed. They also have a tight TOS... which as a SEO expert I appreciate... Google does judge you on speed & the cr@p residing on your shared server.

I personally would not recommend either for business websites. Businesses do NOT have time for down websites or email issues. & if you are going to spend the money for DNS redundancy... don't go cheap on hosting - you get what you pay for. My fav is low cost for all hosting tiers, but very professional in service.

One of my sites went from 3 seconds loading time, to 8, 12, 15 and even 20 seconds.

I haven't added content to the site since November, and haven't done any plugin additions to it. Yet the site has been throttled a few times.

Of course, bluehost gives you the same lame excuse that it might be a plugin or content on the site, etc. Then i ask them, but you can see from my stats that for months the site has been averaging 3-4 second load pages and suddenly it goes up? Then they say, it could be a plugin, content, etc.

I'll be moving the site in a couple of weeks hopefully to hostgator. Funny thing is, when I first signed up for a webhost, i signed up for hostgator. However, they said that i got flagged for credit card fraud, so they had to manually approve my account, and at the time I was out of the country for work, so after 4 days of trying to email them stuff, I just said, screw it, I'll go to bluehost. Bad bad decision.

Definitely a big supporter of Hostgator. Been with them for 5 years now and rarely have had any issues. Anything that has sprung up in the past has been taken care of in literally minutes. Uptime has been awesome, sites load fast and customer service has always been great. Never had a reason to look anywhere else for hosting.

I was using another provider which blocked my account for high volume of traffic. When I tell them "what about my unlimited bandwidth?", they then told me my website is sucking a lot of resources on the server. When I asked for some statistics, they never come up with them and unblocked the site eventually. I decided to make the move and e-mailed some providers about their services, including HG.

While the others replied my e-mail in 2 days to 1 week, HG contacted me from my phone number which was in my mail signature, in the next few hours. A billing representative answered all my questions, including technical ones.

Now I work with HG for 4 years and rarelly had any problems. And when I have one, they solved it no more than half a day. By the way, the website which caused me to leave my old provider, is now much larger and driving more traffic; HG never complained about any server or bandwidth issues

Just another option you may look into may be iPage (check signature). I am also working with them for about 2 years for a different project. Hosting 9 websites with all of them database driven and very busy sites with lots of members, I did not have much problem at all. Once, they mailed me to check one of my sites as it was causing abnormal load on the server and may be hacked, the next day they returned to me with the exact line of codes and database queries which were suspicious and I was able to solve the problem without any code inspection on my side.

One aspect of BlueHost was when I was setting up a WordPress database with them it was much more difficult than with Hostgator.

Started with Bluehost... for a while they had great customer service, then I had a bad experience with one of their online tech people directing me to a long, complex help guide for an issue I was having. (If I had been able to figure it out on my own I wouldn't have waited an hour to actually chat with someone.) It was just dismissive and rude.
