Where Should I be Pointing my Backlinks

I have a blog setup with posts that are targeted for specific keywords. I plan to build backlinks with anchor text for each of these specific keywords.

Do I want to point the backlinks to my home page or to the specific post that is targeting those specific keywords.

Cheers

    I do both.

I have one to the main index page, and 1 to 2 others pointing
    to a similar sub page.

You don't need to add just links that are on the topic of the post.

In fact, all my blogs are crossed-linked to all of my dot coms, at
the end of posts, in posts, and on the main pages, in one way
or another. Not each post gets linked to everything. I spread the
    wealth.

    • In addition to this advice, also be sure to alternate your anchor text. For example, if the page you are pointing to is optimized for "weight loss diet pills," you might use these anchor text:

      weight loss diet pills
      weight loss pills

You should also use anchor text AND the actual url to your homepage in your backlinks. Example, if your homepage is optimized for "weight loss" and your site is also weightloss.com, you would use these as backlinks:

      weight loss (anchor text)
http:/www.weightloss.com (actual url to your site)

I what I have always done is to make one anchor text pointing to my home page and the other one to the inner page.
This way I get both the inner page and home page on each backlinks that i put on one way backlinks

    Just my 2 cents

You have to target both the main page and the article. I would mainly focus on the main page and the the article. I will do separate link building campaigns for those two.

I think it depends on the purpose of your blog, and what you are willing to do to get people to your site.

If you take your optimized blog post and submit it to something like ezinearticles, it will naturally rank higher in a Google search for those keywords than your blog post. You can link from the ezine article to your home page and blog post to funnel traffic.

Then work on building backlinks to the ezine article to get it to the front page for your keywords, the strategy being that it will take less effort than getting your blog post to the front page.

I used this strategy in an experiment the past few days with a slide presentation as the 'test funnel.' I uploaded it last week and was able to get the slide presentation to page two with little effort by today.

After I finished my meagre backlinks efforts, my slideshow was sitting at about 40 views (yesterday). Today, it is at 850 views.

I could not have done that with such little effort had I use a blog post as the target, because to get the blog post ranked that high would have required a heavier backlinking strategy.

The only problem I've encountered so far is I can't figure out a way to determine which of my backlinking efforts accounted for the huge traffic surge. I suspect it was blog commenting.

I would do both one to my home page, and the other one, or even two to the specific post.
