Building Backlinks and Losing SERP's?

I don't understand this. I have been focusing on getting sites to rank this past month since I failed at getting a couple of sites to rank a few months back. Now I am building backlinks to my new sites using a mixture of Angela's links, yahoo answers, blog commenting, articles, etc, mostly Angelas links and my other high dofollow PR sites and I notice that once I build a couple of strong links to my sites, my sites decrease in serps. Could using mostly high pr sites actually hurt your ranking? It is doing this for new and old sites.

    When you say decrease in serps is this something you see it a short period of time or have you given it a few weeks to settle out? Also make sure you are using backlink lists that mix it up. Angela as I recall was good at doing that but I haven't checked recently.

      Well for one site, it is bouncing from number 9 position to number 3 position, in yahoo though. Nowhere to be seen in Google. I was building links just like I am now and it has dissapeared for around 2-3 months. Still indexed though. The other site has been around for a while. I have been monitoring the rankings and it has been about a week and a half or so when it lost it's ranks in Google for 4 different keywords.

    This is normal. Google is seeing these new links and evaluating your site. Your site may jump around a bit but should settle within a few weeks, probably at a much higher position than before. Just keep doing what your doing BUT don't overdo it!

    The only other thing is you may be seeing the sandbox effect. How fat have you been building links and how old are your domains?

    Low quality links, like the type you mentioned, are good for indexing and ranking for long tail terms. For stability, you need higher quality links as well. Until you have those links, you'll bounce around on the winds of algorithm changes and competitor's actions.
