Hi I'm new to this and was hoping if anyone could direct me to a thread or site which explains the process of SEO's. I've been browsing this forum for a while but just don't know where to begin.

I understand a lot of it is to do with backlinks and generating traffic in and out of your site from several sources but I don't understand how someone manages to make their site number one within hours! Is this ethical or are people cheating the system?

I don't know about one hour.
I use Traffic Bug and have had great improvements with my rankings.

What a time saver and blessing!

1 hour? I'd say impossible, but someone would counter with "I can do it for a very longtail phrase with no competition.".

So I'll just say for "normal" phrases it's impossible without the help of many very high PR sites, EDU/GOV sites, and very rapid Google crawls.

The real question is - how long will it last there??

I see... I guess maybe not hours then, this was being explained to me in person a few months ago.... so if you propose an offer and say I can at least put you on the first page of google, how does the process start?? I still can't get my head around the concept.

You can get websites on the first page of google in hours in NO, emphasis on the NO competition markets, if there is a slight competition then you will need to do some SEO.

Ok, up the top of this forum is a search function, there is enough information in that little button up there to make you millions Enjoy it, love it, maybe even take it out for a dinner or two but make sure you use it .

        Think of it this way.

SEO is marketing. You are merely marketing a business using a digital medium, rather than traditional.

A component of Marketing exposure. SEO is exposure.

A business exposing themselves to the right audience, buyers, where the business product or service solves a buyers problem, yields the best conversion from a lead to a sale.

Therefore, exposing a business in the right places is important offline, just like online. Exposing your website, or rather certain webpages, in the right places on the Internet yields results. We do this by linking one website to another, or a link from site A to mine. The better websites that I can have linking to me, such as an attorney spending the time networking at the Chamber of Commerce rather than the mall, the better connection I will make.

These links are like endorsements, just like how word of mouth yields results in the offline world. Websites endorsing citations and reviews for local businesses are very important in SEO for the local business results.

In SEO jargon, we build authorative and theme related links to our sites to increase our rankings in the search engine results page (SERP).

This is creating transparancy and exposure.

        This is SEO 101.

Never do that. You can never guarantee results when it comes to teh Google. Doing so is fraudulent.

You can guarantee that you will get them some level of exposure and show past results to back it up, but never promise the first page of Google for any given term.

SEO is a slow process. It takes time and patience to do it right and even then you never know what Big G has in store for your site. Usually if you do it right, they reward you, but not always.

The best way to rank highly on search engines is to have relevant content and relevant keywords. This is one of the main things that search engines are looking for when they rank the quality of your website. If your website is relevant to the topic you will rank higher. Linking to other relevant and trusted websites will also help your ranking. If you have the marketing budget, buying keywords from Google will guarantee you a higher ranking. These are a few key points to remember when working on your website ranking.

Ok here is what you need to know , you will have to do some research on these if you don't understand.

      On site optimization

Put your keyword in the following:

      • Title tags
      • description tags
      • H1 or H2 tags
      • first paragraph of your article
      • meta keyword tags
      • tags
      • URL (example - www.example.com/chicken-legs)

      Also for onsite SEO...
      • Site map
      • privacy policy
      • contact us page
      • terms page
      • about us
      • well written content, with good grammar and on subject throughout the site
      • Making sure your site loads quick
      • keep links within your articles to a minimal
      • Keep updating your site with fresh new content
      • If targeting a specific area, a local phone number and address
(I'm sure I missed something but this is a good list...)

Stuff to consider for the user

Make it easy for them to naviagte
make it easy for them to leave a comment
      clear font
Social bookmarking at the bottom of each article
images (these can bring in traffic)
Social media follow buttons, for example, here is my facebook and twitter type buttons

      Off site seo

All you need to do here is generate good quality back links, thats it, if you generate these backlinks along with the above, your be number 1. (Preferably get ON TOPIC backlinks.)

I completely agree with schwennbloosky, she says it well. Relevant content is very important. Experts argue that it's somewhere around a 70/30 or 80/20 split for off the page promotion (links, citations, etc) and on the page factors (content, title, etc...).

However, schwennbloosky better be careful about what websites are being promoted in her signature when dishing out advice. www.bloosky.com is a horrible site when it comes to SEO or conversion.

With due respect to her, it's not her firm and I'm assuming by the elegant response, she's at least fairly well versed with SEO.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess when my friend was explaining it to me it just all seemed so surreal. He basically had this business proposition where he would target local businesses and demonstrate to them how he could make their site number one on google.

It just seemed too easy and didn't seem ethical, like he could somehow rig your site so it gets bumped onto the first page of google. I myself have no prior IM knowledge so I just sat there mindlessly and nodded not knowing what to believe. So I'm guessing there are two ways of going about it , the honest and dishonest way?

I've been providing servicing to local business for 5 years. We have hundreds of customers.

What you are talking about is black hat seo versus white hat. Black hat you get results quicker, but they rarely stay for a long time. White hat is ethical seo practicing and conforming to the search engines guidelines. This takes longer but is effective marketing.

I suggest reading my free report, the link is in my signature. It's something that we put together about providing SEO to local businesses.

    Hello ivanqfung,
I don't understand the meaning of an hour....it's totally unethical....if Google comes to know about it it will definitely ban the site....and try to get good quality of backlinks and this takes time but for long run it is quiet helpful and will improve your site ranking....

Non ethical what do you mean? SEO is about targeting the right keywords and not a keyword that no one is searching for. You can get number 1 easily for a keyword that has very low competition and not many business owners understand it at all.

I have heard of people getting their site to the top in hours. It can definitely be done, but remember that there are so many SEO factors to take into consideration.
