Which strategy should I use?

I run a blog which is an authority blog in my niche (PR3, 9 months old). It's my flagship website and earns me money from products I sell directly through it.
Lately, I have been considering using a sniper type method for adsense sites, going after domains for long tail keywords...
Would it make sense for me to forgo this and start writing articles for the back end of my blog aimed directly those longtail keywords (related to my niche which is pretty broad), instead of buying the domains? I figure all the work I would do backlinking to these individual sites, could just strengthen my main and most important site... :confused:
Does this sound like a good strategy? Where do you all think my time would be better spent?
