Hosting server yes, but not the package... a lot of servers banned by google... bythost, byteact, etc... to name some..

Hosting server little bit affect your ranked indirectly, It is directly affect your sites due to this it should be at least 99.95 updated. Bandwidth must be high.

Hostgator are great, i have a reseller account with them and they have great customer support also...

I love the reseller account as i can create as many websites as i like and manage them in the same account...

But.. I will give you a tip.. I am not sure how new you are to the IM game, but a few of the membership sites around offer free hosting with their memberships..

So if you are still learning the ropes and want to educate yourself with a monthly membership and have hosting included for pretty much the same price.. Maybe it would be good to take a look

And if that was totally irrelevant just forget what i had just said..haha

No it doesn't effect SEO, If you take my experience, I use Free Hosting when i have low buget and at that time my Serp ranking was good and now when i came to paid hosting, my search engine ranking still increasing day by day
