My wife wants to start a backlinking business

Can anyone offer any advice?

She's been watching me build my business for years now and she finally wants in. However, now she wants to provide a service to other marketers.

I've been buying everyones backlinking packets, and she's been doing my links for a while now.

However, neither of us know anything about pricing, tracking ...or anything at all. any advice will be useful.

Backlinking (much like article writing) is becoming more and more competitive and that means lower prices and lower margins. Your wife is going to find it very hard to compete with people living in LEDCs that can afford to work for a couple of dollars an hour.

To become (and stay) competitive she will almost certainly need to find something to leverage to drive her costs down. Some of the best options are -

    - Software, there's a ton of it and people are happy to farm out this work to experienced users
    - Hiring, if those guys will build links for a couple of dollars an hour there is no reason they can't do it for your wife and she marks up the service
    - Backend, everyone who wants links built wants other stuff so there is no reasons she couldn't provide link building at or below cost and use it to sell other services.

    Hope some of that helps,

    Andy

Thanks, I think the backend advice is excellent and something that I wouldn't have thought of. Why not use backlinking as a way to drive backend sales just like we internet marketers do? ( or should be doing)

    You should be delighted.

If I could get my wife interested in what I am doing, you would see my doing cartwheels and hand-stands.

I think the first step is to encourage her to become a member of the Warrior Forum. That way, she can ask her own questions, browse the archives to learn more about business/marketing, build relationships with a few marketers, etc. All that good stuff.

    Cheers,
    Becky

To be honest I haven't even heard for females that heard what SEO is. If your wife wants to start a backlinking service then you should be delighted and help her all the way. Surf through numerous threads, examine what is being offered and at what prices, offer services that are not offered and you should be OK.

Really? You've been here for three months and you've never heard of a female who knows what SEO is?

Buy her a War Room membership. Then give her time on the PC to post her own questions and build a profile. Faster learning. Faster results.

OK. I'm failing miserably to make some code to work atm so I'm going to whitter a bit more in this thread

Don't forget that backlinking is the end result of quite a long chain of desires. No one wakes up one morning thinking "I really need to get me some backlinks". Well OK, some of us here do but your typical customer isn't going to.

It starts with a desire for more traffic to your website.
The discovery that ranking in Google will send traffic to your site.
And the realisation that backlinks are the way to get there.

Ultimately if you build backlinks you're in the traffic market (whether you realise it or not). You're also in the SEO market (whether you realise it or not).

So while providing backlinks is a great place to start you'll make more money by moving up the chain of desire.

Instead of (as well as) offering X backlinks for $Y provide an SEO package that includes on site SEO evaluation and consistent backlink building (continuity).

If she gets especially good at SEO then ditch the backlink model all together and sell rankings, the margins are way higher but that's obviously a lot more complicated.

I'm starting to overcomplicate though so I'm going to shut up and get back to coding.

    Good luck,

    Andy

    Hi

I agree it would be one of the worst services to go into for having to compete with others. For example i employ backlinks for $3 an hour could she really do better than this?

I see many people trying to compete with angela edwards and the reason why they fail is that they are not ranking on any keywords so it makes them look bad and that if they cant do it why should we pay for them?

If she has followed you in internet marketing she is better off offering full seo packages to get businesses off the ground rather than just backlinking.

    kind regards

      Wait...

I thought SEO stood for "Sex Equals Offspring?"

Maybe I'm confused about SEO after all.

That explains it LOL, gotta stop doing SEO for my sites then LMAO.

        Anyways...

        Back to the OP.

I have to agree with the others, let her jump on in here and get her own experience with you to help her out. Maybe if she's good at what she does you guys can make a WSO or something to get her services out there and build her a client base and go from there.

I think the words of caution from the group is good as well, because some places can do it for way too cheap to compete with, so she needs to find a way to stand out from them.

        Best of luck to her.

Backlinking would be a great start for your wife b/c that way she really is covering the traffic side of things but than perhaps she should start using that with niche marketing for better results..there have been quite a few posts here regarding that so ask her to look around the forum and also try googling for software etc

    Hi,

Be careful in your niche selection.

While I love internet marketers...You'll go broke, in my opinion, trying to sell this service to them.

    BUT...

Folks are banking BIG MONEY...selling to other crowds...

    Real Estate...Insurance...travel websites...

My Real Estate agent would LOVE...and probably pay mucho wampum to show up on the first page for:

    "Russellville Homes For Sale"

And she doesn't know a THING about outsourcing to
    the Phillipines.

    Hope that'll help a little.

Niche selection - Client Selection - is EVERYTHING.

my opinion, you should support your wife to go in the IM business... it's a husband's job... don't be afraid of competition... even if you fail, you would gain knowledge of how and why you fail...

and i think your wife will love you much more if you support her all the way...

and for the backlinking business, i don't recommend that for a starter business... not that i would be competed by your wife( See My Sig ), but like other fellow warrior said in this thread, you simply cannot compete with us (people from LEDC) who can provide low cost services...
