Hey all,

So I am still new to this but have been wondering about Google AdWords traffic numbers for keywords such as this.

Google AdWords says Billablong Shirts gets 22,200 times locally and 60,500 globally.

It also says Billabong Shirt gets searched 27,100 Local and 60,500 global.

I have tried this with several keywords and generally find similar results.

How does adding an "S" effect the keyword results? Does Billabong Shirts adn Billabong Shirt get searched a combined 27,100 + 22,200 times per month? It seems unlikely that they, along with about 10 others I tried, get searched the same ammount of times globally each month.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Also, say I was going to make a site out of either of these domains, woudl BillabongShirt.com or BillabongShirts.com be better, or would it even matter?

Thanks.

Billabong shirts has 6600 monthly searches, and Billabong shirt has 2400. You need to use "exact match", not broad, or you will be sadly surprised by the lack of traffic. I would go for both, if you want to make that your focus.

Also keep in mind the strength of top 10 competition could be very different with and without the 's'. Dont just assume one is more/less competitive, do your top 10 competition analysis for both!

I had a similar situation with one of my domain names. I went for the plural, and ended up ranking well for both the singular and the plural, though all my backlinking effort was targeted strictly at the plural term. YMMV but that was my experience.

Thanks for the info all. Someone else mentioned there may be problems with trademark due to Billabong being in the site domain. Has anyone had any experience with this? Has anyone had to take a site down due to something like this, or could you just change the domain to say Surfing Shirts instead and get away with it?

    Thanks guys!

if your going to promote Billabong shirts, then you will most likely need to speak to someone at Billabong and get permission to use their trade name in your url. Better be safe than sorry!

As long as you don't promote yourself as the original site you'll be under the radar a little better. People make affiliate sites, fan sites, promotional sites, "unofficial sites", parody sites, etc, all the time. Unless you are trying to damage their business, or name, you should be fine. But they can always try to take it away, that's about it.
