My first site is a Wordpress site. When I type in the address into the URL bar as www.mysite.com, the URL changes to http://mysite.com.

Then I read that Google looks at www.mysite.com and http://mysite.com as 2 separate URLs and you will get ranked for both of them?

Is this true? And should I only be obtaining backlinks for the http://mysite.com and not the www version? (I have zero backlinks so far, so going back and changing things up would not affect much)

What is better for SEO?

Thanks in advance!

You should combine the http: and www so that when you are link building your site the customer and visitors did not confused.

I believe you can change this within Wordpress. Just go to General Settings, and where it says "wordpress address(url)" and "blog address(url)", change http://mysite.com to http://www.mysite.com .
