Google Pagerank Formula

Just wanted to know if Google still uses this Pagerank formula for calculating the pagerank for a website.

PR(A) = (1 - d) + d * SUM ((PR(I->A)/C(I))

Where:

* PR(A) is the PageRank of your page A.
* d is the damping factor, usually set to 0,85.
* PR(I->A) is the PageRank of page I containing a link to page A.
* C(I) is the number of links off page I.
* PR(I->A)/C(I) is a PR-value page A receives from page I.
* SUM (PR(I->A)/C(I)) is the sum of all PR-values page A receives from pages with links to page A..

In other words: The PR of a page is determined by the PR of every page I that has a link to page A. For every page I that points to page A, the PR of page I is devided by the number of links from page I. These values are cumulated and multiplied by 0,85. Finally 0,15 is added to this result, and this number represents the PR of page A.

    PageRank - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    I think that's the best explanation of page rank out there - the forumal is pretty open and the patent is also available for reading but Google obviously doesn't reveal everything.

    IMO - SERP positioning is more important than page rank.

    this is way too complicated to memorize

    I "know":

    Link Strength == (PR+1)^3 / OBL (outbound links)

    Important: PRx is not simply twice as strong as PRx-1 (eg PR1 to PR2), but link strenght potentially increases with page rank, and some tools (eg. seo spyglass) got this formula wrong in calculating link strength. They simply assume PR2 is twice as strong as PR1. But according to above formula PR2 is way stronger than PR1, so is PR3 compared to PR2...etc...

    It would definitely be nice to see. But I dont know if it would change anything in terms of how I link build. I think I would do the same things even knowing what the algo is

      Hey There,

      Very nice searching history but I think is more important
      to know what Google will do tomorrow.

    I am not sure why anyone cares. The only thing that really matters is where your site sits in the hire-ache of the SERPs. Everything else is irrelevant as I see it.

    Please tell me why I am wrong.

      If the pagerank algorithm were that simple, Google wouldn't be anywhere near as successful as they are.

      Nobody outside of Google knows the exact algorithm (which is actually likely a combination of many algorithms) and those who do won't give it away. It's the same type of people who drive armored trucks and guard bank vaults.

      But it doesn't hurt to try and figure it out. I have been for years.

    PageRank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. Google calculates a page's importance from the votes cast for it. How important each vote is is taken into account when a page's PageRank is calculated.
