Speed of setting up a Linkwheel

Hi All,

Quick question on the formation of linkwheels. I'm thinking about creating a link wheel for one of my deep linked URLs. My question is at which pace should I setup the web2.0/blogs/articles directories at?

Is it detrimental if I set them up straightaway or should I 'drip feed' them over a period? If so, what kind of period should I set them up over? I'm thinking about a wheel that consists of only a few branches like say 6-8, is this sufficient or should one use a lot more?

Really looking for advice from established people who have used this strategy for while, please do not reply if you are someone who has not implemented link wheels.

  • Hmmmmm guess there arent many linkwheel experts here then :-(
  • That's because Google is onto link wheels - they aren't that effective anymore. I've had friends test them out and were pretty much experts at it. Worked great a year ago - not so much anymore.

  • Thanks for that, thats what I assumed hence why i haven't really bothered with them too much, the only problem is that I'm hearing people who have actually said that they are still working !!!!!!
  • Link wheel's still work, but like everything else, it needs to be done in combination with other strategies. Instead of thinking of it as a link wheel, think of it as a content network, focused on one very specific topic. I grow mine pretty slow, but over time, I get a large content network of sites with good authority for each of my topics. Not a "get ranked quick" plan, but it is a long term solid strategy IMO.

    In addition to building links, these link wheels or content networks should be built in a manner so that you will pick up traffic to your main site from these linked sites as they pick up long tail keyword traffic. Over time, it's a real good way to grow authority.
