Life After Google Banishment?

Obviously Google wields a tremendous amount of arbitrary power.

Occasionally I come across claims to the effect that someone has a thriving business online despite being banned by Google (ie de-indexed or having a radically reduced Google PR).

Beyond Google?

Just wondering if anyone here is basically banned by Google but still making great $$$ online via other IM routes?

(I personally am still in fine standing with Google, knock on wood)

Believe it or not, Google is NOT the be all and end all of the internet.

There are thousands of ways to drive traffic and market products without using Google.

It is a big part of the internet but it's NOT the internet.

Building a list and creating multiple traffic channels (article marketing, social media, video marketing etc) are a few good precautionary measures you can consider.

Ummm... You're confusing the sales persona with the person. That's rarely a good way to be accurate, especially when the persona is so clearly manufactured for effect.

I don't know Kelly myself, but my friends who do speak highly of him as a person. Be careful about the judgements.

BTW, he hasn't disappeared at all. Just doing some additional things these days.

I know that it was a manufactured personna, that's why I intentionally didn't mention Kelly's name..

What I was saying is that I was happy for the disappearance of the R.J. personna (for very good reasons, awful marketing used with this character, I think many here remember the sh*t videos)..

          Sorry if that confused anyone...

I don't want to hijack the thread with unrelated subject, but...

What was genius in showing a person on a toilet, who whipped his as* with a 20 dollars, then to make things interesting, showing the 20 dollars with sh*t in front of the camera?

I can make millions selling snake oil or playing a clown online, but this doesn't make it a genius or an acceptable practice...

              Sorry, but can't resist replying

How is acceptable defined? My great grandfather really did sell snake oil of sorts (Pink Pills for Pale People), and made a fortune doing so, and was well-respected in society . I'm afraid that that is the case with many of a nation's movers and shakers (ie they happen to be the most successful shysters). Nowadays, the worst most pernicious snake-oil is sold as food (eg those addictive sugary cereals or Wonderbread peddled to children). It doesn't make it good, but it is the way it is.

If you hang with many of the superaffiliates out there, the ones who really work CPA networks and affiliate programs, you'll discover many don't run with Google anymore due to cost, ad restrictions, or because they have been banned.

Most high traffic advertisers have turned to paid media like banners, text ads, Tier 2 search engines, CPV/PPV, Facebook ads, and other sources since they are scalable and the visitors are pretty much on demand.

And lets get real about free traffic. It's out there, and may be good for the newbie getting their feet wet, but if you expect to make any real money online, especially if you want to get wealthy, you need a more reliable plan that submitting articles to directories and blogging.

Look at paid media when you are ready to rock your business, no Google necessary

Never been banished - but one of my most successful sites gets 90% of its traffic (and the vast majority of conversions) from Stumbleupon.

I was banished from adwords 6 years ago - it was painful at first but in reality it proved to be a lifesaver as it opened up so many other opportunities for me and I became less reliant on Google and more on my own talents to aquire traffic.

There are lots of marketers that do quite well without Google you just don't hear about them because they prefer to stay quiet and in the shadows.

I'm new here so this may sound a bit odd.
I'm a web designer and was creating a site for a very picky client. He wanted to rank higher on the search pages for his business.
I told him a 4 page site with three external links was isolated. It was only because I did my job that he had others linking to him at all. He didn't want any links - didn't want to advertise on his site. I told him he needed relevant links to rank better.
Finally he agreed to have adsense on a few pages. BUT - he didn't want any ads from competitors in his field of service.
    I know - a nightmare!
So I was trying to tweak the ads coming in by checking the links to make sure that they didn't offer his very specific service. Unfortunately, I'd never done this before and I was still new in working with Google. You may figure out what happened.
Because I got an email saying I was banned - they told me that I did something wrong and that my acct was closed to me. They didn't even listen to me when I tried to explain what I was doing and ask them what was wrong so I could learn.
It wasn't till later when my son got into using it for his own site, that I found out they added some extra tools. Seems that they have an option now that will disable your own clicks to links. Yet I don't see how that works.
But I no longer can use adsense - so what other option do I have for adding adsense "like" ads to my websites?

Someone said to me that Facebook is bigger than Google - but do they offer an Adsense like option? A way to add ads to a site's pages like adsense does...if it does that would be great.

Thanks for any help - the learning curve for a lot of this stuff is fairly steep at times.

I can't post the link because I don't have a high enough post count, but if you type adsense alternatives into google the top organic result is an article on the site rosswalker.co.uk which discuses 10 alternatives to adsense.
