Hi.

If I can't get hold of the keyword as the domain name, and, add something like 'the' or '100', how much more difficult is it to rank?

    I think it will not effect the ranking. if you advertise with these keywords added with the or 100 then your rank doesn't lose its position and effect. so i think you can use that but you have to advertise them through these keywords.
