Sig Links Aren't Working Anymore???

I sort of asked the same question a couple days ago - but I didn't really get a good response -plus, I didn't go into detail...

Well, here's the deal. Last year I started out doing just signature links with clients. I had very good success. I then started doing other things like article marketing, press releases, web 2.0 properties and some other things as well. I always called the sig links my "bread and butter" - because they often got me good rankings for my clients (believe it or not).
I've noticed the last couple months my good fortune has turned to mud. The sig links aren't moving up at all. I do article marketing as well - and these backlinks are not working. The backlinks off of the web 2.0 props are not working as well. I do get some referral traffic from all this, but it isn't much.

The sig links are really disappointing because these suckers are not working well at all. It used to be I could take a client to the first page within a niche where the keyword was long tailed KW - and sometimes with just a two worded phrase, but not anymore. I'm beginning to think if Google has really changed their algorithm and clamped down on backlinking.

What do you guys think? Are you having the same problems?

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty new to forum sig backlinks (I just started a few weeks ago) but they look like they've bumped me a little bit in Yahoo, but no change at all in Google. I don't know how to control for other aspects of Google's dance though, so its hard to know if backlinks work or not. I'm glad to see that you have some prior experience to work from, so its interesting that you don't see them working anymore.

I notice that not much of the normal stuff is working anymore. Directories (gone), Articles (not so much), Signatures (not really), Bookmarks (nope), RSS Directories (not at all), Web 2.0 Sites (A little).

As google changes so must we, but we are running out of options for getting the 'easy' links.

I'm thinking forums are for building relationships and learning.

Sig links are just a side note.

Too many people here think publishing a list of forums to spam,
er, post a sig and profile somehow does someone a favor. It
      doesn't. It ruins forums.

If sig links are your "bread and butter" for your clients, what does
      that say?

If I sign up to a forum and, as a member, I'm giving the option to leave an anchor text link in my signature or bio section, explain to me exactly how that "ruins" a forum?

Apart from the moderators, no one on the forum would even know that the link was there.

To suggest that profile linking ruins forums is ridiculous.

If doing so was going to be detrimental to the forum then why would the people who own the forum allow it?

All we are doing is using the resources available to us as determined by the owner of the forum.

I own a forum. Everyday I get slammed with idiot signups who add links to a sig and
that's it. I know who they are. They have 3 links with buy viagra, and other garbage.

What does it hurt? It uses my resources for one. My forum. My webspace. My
bandwidth. Why should I allow it to be filled with garbage?

Joining a forum just to post a profile link means you are joining a forum under
          false pretenses.

It ruins forums. period. It's what ruined blog posting.

I can't believe I'm actually arguing this and people promote this.

And what are you doing on the internet? Trying to make money is my guess. Am I right?

Get off if you don't like it. Seriously. Your bandwidth, your site, your hurt feelings? I almost want to cry.

I guess you are into spamming forums as well.

You should ask the mods how busy they are here deleting crap.

Then come back and make a statement about spamming forums.

If you want to make real money, you would not condone the
habit of spamming forums for backlinks.

What does forum spamming matter? Please.

What does it hurt? I deleted some guy the other day. Got mad.
Said now he is going to send me a ton of spammers and to get ready.
Yeah, that'll show me. Pathetic low lifes.

Yet everyone else here, including mods, condone buying and selling link packets to where? You got it, forums. Where have you been?

A low life would seek revenge for some silly internet argument/infraction, and an egotist with no sense of humor would get mad at the masses of anonymous spammers that he can easily stop by tweaking a few options on his forum if it's so important to him. And yes, you have to protect yourself, just like you have to lock your doors at night. People won't just "not walk in and rob you" because it's rude or illegal. Welcome to real life.

Posts in adverting forum threads with hyperlinked keywords are more useful than signature links...
