Facebook Ads: NO Impressions?

Quick question here...

I'm going nuts because I keep getting ecstatic
emails about how good facebook ad traffic is...

Yet after going through Ryan Deiss's 'Facebook
Ad Power' for 2 weeks and setting up 2 campaigns
*exactly* as he describes...

I am getting NO impressions at all...

Truth be told this is for a smallish health niche, but
I am targetting over 70,000 facebook users, so
I should be getting some Impressions, right?

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks,
Cory

What did you state you would pay for cpc or cpm? You may need to raise that amount slowly to see if you get some traffic.

      Hey Thomas,

I am bidding 1/3 of the high ask price.

Raise the price slowly to see if you get more traffic. I believe Deiss stated half of the high asking price to start out with. Then again I could have a memory problem. More than likely you are not bidding enough.

That's probably why your ads aren't getting any exposure. You'll have to raise it progressively higher until you see some action happening with your ads.

I believe its strickly your bidding price as mentioned. Raise it sloooowly, as sometimes just a penny or two get you over the cutoff point.

I don't think that this is a good way to do it... I would pay for clicks and not just 1/3 of the highest bid, maybe about 60% of it... With 70k targetted visitors, it would be easy to sell a few products!

Try duplicating your campaign 3-4 times and use different bids. You can gain the optimal price for your ads by doing this.

I had to raise my price to get any traffic using CPC and it was just too expensive for me ($.50 per click! when I get $.03 adwords CPC). So just raise it a little a day and see what that does. I'm sure that's really all you can do. You could also raise your daily spend, right? Just monitor closely especially when starting a new campaign the first day so it doesn't get out of control! Keep us posted! I'd like to see some Facebook Ads success before I try to use it in my little niches again!

I also agree that you should raise your bid price slowly.

If you are bidding 1/3 of the price, you are definitely to low.

The first thing I would do though is BUDGET LOW in the beginning.

Then I would raise the bid slowly until the impressions start coming.

Budgeting low will keep your campaign from running away from you once you hit the bid mark that will get you impressions.

That should fix you up nicely.

Odd, I posted to this thread last night. and now my post is gone.

I too have had some issues with facebook and their ads. I have several ads already approved and running, and yet I have no impressions. They were getting impressions for a few days but then they stopped altogether. all my CPC ads have stopped working.

I have copied the ads and turned them to CPM and they get impressions and a lousy click through price too.

Facebook is also flacky on which ads they approve and disapprove. I ahve 2 ads that are approved,a nd two that I copied using their system to copy them, but they disapproved the second set of ads.

Does the left hand know what the right hand is doing?
        I think not.
        Facebook is frustrating.

As mentioned by other people, it is also my experience that you need to raise the bid price higher at first to get your foot in the door.

While Ryan said to bid half of the asking price, we start at the bottom of the asking price, and a good performing ad will reduce in cost automatically very quickly. The key words there are a good performing ad.

We target top 10 states according to Google insights and hone in the targeting as much as possible to get between 8K - 15K target audience. we are then tweaking the ad to get 0.1% CTR or better. Once you can so a good CTR, the ad prices drop on their own.

With that target group, your test ad will fall quickly within a day or so, because they are seeing the ad a lot.

After it is tested in the 10 top markets and performs well, unleash it nationally. you will still have to get it reapproved, but nationally should yield the same results with a longer run time before the ad gets old.

I have a similar frustration wit FB Ads. Yet my bid price for CPC is at the high end (2/3 the top-end bid). And it has been for days. Yet 0 impressions still. I tried tweaking the key words in the ad yesterday, but still no impact. CPM works fine.

Anyone know how FB determines ad placement? My theory is it matches keywords in the ad to the page content or the user's likes and interests...but my keywords are the same as keywords used in other client accounts, and those get clicks while mine don't get air time.

you guys aren't bidding high enough. You should bid towards the top of the suggested range so you get better quality impressions.

With CPM now, they are serving those ads to the pages that have historically low CTR's, because it makes them more money (at our expense of course). So CPC really is the only way on FB now.

Even when youre bidding really high with CPC, but you have a killer CTR, your actual CPC will drop automatically. No need to fuss around with your bids. Just aim for 0.3%+ CTR's (it used to be aim for 0.1% but your cpc's at that ctr will make it tough to be profitable)

i have set my cpc at £0.14 way below there recamendation with an audience of about 170,000,000 and ive had 100,000 impressions in a week, it does slow down sometimes but then it will pick up all of a sudden.

I have the same problem as Cory. In what increments do you raise your bid price? And how long does it take afterwards until you start to see impressions?

I would try cpm and add 5 cents to the suggested bin. (to the start bin!)
And maybe max. 10.000 targeted people.
and check your "interest" and maybe the whole targeting options...
Sorry i can´t give you a better advide without knowing what kind of exact niche this is.

      greetings

yes I would include a bigger audience. slowly increase your big maybe.

Facebook can be a tough nut to crack, as many people are on there to update their profile and not there to buy. That is what I have found. Just something to consider i guess.

Patience and testing is key on Facebook.

Don't be afraid to bid high. Set a daily budget that you're comfortable with, but bid as high as you can. Usually between the suggested bid prices.

Make a lot of ad variations and test them all out. Get enough impressions and clicks so you can make a good decision at what performs the best.

Testing is really an absolute must when it comes to Facebook advertising.

On average I "loose" (read: invest) $500 to test out a campaign. I test a lot of ads, then I test a lot of landing page variations and most importantly I go for the long-term value of subscribers/customers/fans I get from Facebook.

Think of it like this: would you pay $500 to know exactly what you need to advertise, how and what if you will be getting a positive ROI after that?

Again - testing is key with Facebook. And testing requires patience.

One last thing - to me paying $2.00 a click would still be cheap. Because I test and find the profitable combination of ad-targeting-landing page.

    Take care,

    ~Davor

What people must realize is that Facebook ads work pretty much the same way as other PPC. You need to bid high enough and have high enough quality, that is your CTR, compared to your competitors. That's how they maximize their profits. Read more in Adwords FAQ.

You say "smallish health niche". I don't think there is such a thing in the health niche as being smallish. Everybody else is advertising their health solutions. As previous post says, you are late in the game so you need to catch up. You won't know your quality until you get impressions but 1/3 of the asking is not going to do it. You'll have to bid at least 2/3 and I'd go full. But work on improving that click rate pronto once you do get impressions so your CPC can go down over time.
