not to do - link building

NOT TO DO list:

  • Do not add your link to a large link list that many webmasters keep on their website and that consists of only links. Actually if a link list consists of more than 30 links, this is considered a link farm. Important search engines like Google recognize this and don't count these as inbound links. In fact, your rankings may even be damaged as a result.
  • Do not link to a website just because of its high Google PageRank. When you link to the sites with a high PageRank that means nothing for your own rank. However, if it is a professional resource with valuable content for your visitors, you should definitely link to it!

    • Good points up there!
I always try to be natural and personal to all my link building and communication to other webmasters. Link exchange is also one of my considerations.

      Thanks for sharing.
    • Couldn't find better words.

Whatever activity that can be done by others to damage you, will not hold against you.
Almost every link has a certain amount of value. Some have great amount of value and others have tiny amount of value.
    • I agree was worried for a sec lol.
  • I disagree also. The majority of large authoritative sites will appear on lists of links without a problem.

If these were the only type of links you were getting you may come unstuck, but I try and get as many types of links as possible as this looks more natural. That includes nofollows, directories etc
  • ummm... right.
  • add me to the list of detractors for the first point. seen no evidence for that
  • Then how most of the guys are getting success with Angela's backlinks? Any thoughts?

    • I strongly disagree...I have been leaving backlinks on high page rank sites that are not relevant to my visitors at all for 8 months now and 3 PR updates later I am at a PR 4 and have over 30,000 in visitors each month because of those backlinks juicing up my rankings for google...I believe this guy is trying to steer noobs in the wrong direction like some people here try to do...dont be led astray..it works...just keep linking away guys and gals! good luck

  • Would really help if you were going to give information out that you propose as factual that you actually back it up.

SEO is a touchy subject and you really shouldn't be giving out false claims to people especially when some of them will listen.

  • And what if your post is the first and the spam comes afterwards?

Generalizations don't work. You place links where it makes sense to get traffic. I have a site that has pulled over 2 Million Unique visitors with less than 25% Google Organic.

Why people worry so much about SEO and Ranking is beyond me. Worry about TRAFFIC and go after it.
  • a little bit confused abt the second point
what kind of links do u refer to?
    outbound?
    do they link u back?
  • You can link to list of links without any problem, as long as the list is useful or valuable - like link bait page...

    • Yes...Agreed. I think a list of links whether it's too big if consists of relevant and useful sites then there is no harm in listing your site.
