Meta Tags

I'n in the process of putting up a large Health and Fitness site, and the first section is on Yoga

I used https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal* to search for keywords and phrases that people were inputting and then put those that were applicable into the Meta Tag Keywords

yoga, hatha yoga, yoga video, yoga meditation, yoga postures, yoga positions, yoga books, beginner yoga, benefits of yoga, kids yoga, yoga for children

On then checking with a Meta Tag Analzer, it told me that I would be considered as spamming by the search egines for over use of the word yoga

Any suggestions please?

Meta tags are applicable to each page. Are you going to be putting all that info on one page? I would put a max of 3 meta tags per page and perhaps try to identify longer phrases. Also incorporate your meta tags into the meta description.

Yes it would be. This will be keyword stuffing that is not recommended for any site.

I guess You're repeating the keyword too many times so consider as spamming. I'd say that You should make 2 sitemap on your site. 1 for your reader and 1 for google. in case you're using WP You can use Dagon Design Sitemap plugin for the reader's sitemap and use XML sitemap for google webmasters.

I only create xml sitemaps now. Why? Three reasons:

      1) If a site is successful the first thing I analyze is the non-xml sitemap so I can clone the structure. So I guess my competitors would do the same thing to me.
      2) Most web sites are only 2 or 3 levels deep and if the page navigation is ok the Googlebot should be able to crawl the pages.
      3) I am yet to be convinced that real visitors actually use sitemaps

If there is any seo benefit to having non-xml sitemaps then perhaps someone could post a response.

Yes sitemaps are helpful in indexing of your site web pages so you can place sitemap.XML file to your site.

The keyword metatag isn't used by the big 3 search engines and hasn't been for years. I doubt that it's even parsed by their 'bots. As a programmer, I know I'd totally ignore it in my code so as to save time in analyzing a page, especially when the program has millions and millions of pages to analyze.

You don't need it unless you want to block the 'bots from indexing pages and directories that you don't want in search results. There are ill behaved 'bots that will ignore robots.txt, so you have to ban them using htaccess.

No, you don't need one as long as your site has clear navigational links and isn't exceptionally large or complex.
