Hey warriors,

My host is hostgator which means that it is based in North America. But
I am planning to buy a .de (Germany) domain at a german domain selling site, then of course host it on my hostgator account and try to rank for
my keyword.

The question is if I will be able to rank well for my german keyword even
with a NorthAmerican based host?

Another thing is where can I get german backlinks from? Can I just use english sites to create german backlinks?

    Using Hostgator is no problem. You can target your site in your webmaster tool account for Germany. For a .de domain you need to be a German citizen. You need a German adres. Or a competitor can wipe you out easily. For backlinks it´s the same as everywhere. The usual things. Articles, Bookmarks, Blogs etc. English backlinks can work, but you should not have too many or only English backlinks.

    Thanks for the answer. What do you mean with the german address? Does it mean that someone with a german address has almost no chance in ranking high in google.com? And vice versa?

    I have a german address but I rank highly in the search engines for english keywords.

    No, that´s not what I mean. The law requires people who possess a .de domain to be a German citizen. That they live in and have a registered addres in Germany. Me, I´m German, but aren´t living in Germany, so I cannot use a .de domain. Or, if a competitor would find out, he could report me and I would lose the domain.
