Google Local Business Listings - SEO

Hi does anyone know how to get your business page on google to the number one spot? Do you need to do SEO on the business listing page seperate or is it related to your website and how well that ranks. Currently the site im trying to rank naturally ranks number 3 however the business with the little google pic next to it on the map doesnt show up and the number one spot is also number one in the business lists.

How can I get there, its not exactly a competitive term

        There is no fix formula to ranked well in search engine. Your site should have unique and quality link and also quality backlinks t get ranked..

          CITATIONS FROM MAJOR DATA PROVIDERS + IYP PORTALS

          HYPERLOCAL / TRADITIONAL WEB CRAWL CITATIONS

          I dont have a clue what this means but its important according to that report.

        I have found that getting your target location into the title and body of the page along with your keyword will help you rank in the local search.

    Had to go through this myself a couple of times. Are you talking about the Google Maps which is referred to the "seven pack" (used to be called 10 pack). This shows the first seven businesses.

    Make sure you fill out all of the fields and optimize them w/ KWs that is relevant to your niche.

    I hope this helps - though I'm thinking you are talking about Google Maps...I could be wrong. Tell me and maybe I can help.

    Only certain keyword phrases bring up google maps. This is very useful to know and research before you try to target keywords that simply won't bring up maps.

    The more involved business listings will rank higher. What I mean by this is having lots of reviews and pictures. I also think the overall SEO of the business website plays a part.

    Hi everyone and thanks for your help, bigcat- yes I meant the top 7 businesses thing but it is shown next to a map with the location. What I mean is if i type in blue widgets newyork the first handful of listing are business listings shown next to a map with their location tagged, This is what I want to get to the top of.

    "citations" are when your business is mentioned across the internet. This often means your business is listed in a directory, which includes the business name and address. Google likes to see this because it verifies that the business is "legit".

    The better the citation, the more it will benefit, for example, if there is a prominent local directory for businesses, being in there is a good citation.

    I am talking about robertdrysdale.net. it is not listed in Local business results.
