To Ad Sense Or Not To Ad Sense???

Okay I'm a newbie and this question has probably been asked before: Does it really make sense to add Ad Sense to a blog where I'm promoting an affiliate product? It seems to me that the last thing I want is for a visitor to click on an Ad Sense ad and leave my site probably to never return. When I started IM last June I added Ad Sense to my blog and as of Oct had made $61.00. Not bad but then I got thinking about all the potential affiliate sales I lost. Still $61 bucks was nice, but.... OK you get my problem and suggestions/opinions.

Thanks,
Coach Pete

    Pete,

I have many sites running both (Adsense + affiliate links) and I like the combo. I don't see that it hurts my Adsense or my affiliate income to have both, but it probably depends on the niche in question. The answer really is to test this for yourself. Get some traffic coming in and try just Adsense, then take Adsense down and try just affiliate links. Then use both. Let the numbers decide it for you.

Thanks John, Yeah I've tried it both ways. The weird thing is I earn more from my affiliate when I had Ad sense Duh!! Guess I should put Ad Sense back up!

If anyone here would know about adsense and affiliate sites it would be John, so I would listen to him. It seems as thought the common denominator in successful IM is to always be testing and then test some more.

Some say only direct your traffic one way, but I have found that there are 3 things a visitor will do, click you affiliate link, click your adsense add or leave your site.

I would put adsense on your site.

My affiliate product blogs are generally structured in this way:

      1. Product/review pages with affiliate links.
      2. Informational type pages ie hints, tips, how to's etc.

The product/review pages DON'T contain any Adsense. The information pages DO contain Adsense.

I would rather make a nice commission on a sale of a product than a few cents from Adsense so I make sure the product pages have only links to the affiliate product.
