PR Leakage - Fact or Fiction?

Is there any definitive source on PR leakage?

Wherever I look nobody seems to actually know whether PR leakage is real or myth and the Google Blog and the webmasters form seems to be as confused. Nowhere that I looked could I find an answer from Google.

The concept of PR leakage doesn't make sense to me as I found explained. As if your site PR is a finite number to be shared with all your links, both internal and external.

The anti-PR leakage crowd regards linking and the resulting PR benefit merely as a vote, rather than a transfer of PR.

Some of the pro-PR leakage lobby seems to "prove" it by pointing to the different (normally lower) PR of internal pages as compared to the home page, but this can be explained easier by the fact that most inbound links tend to link to the home page rather than deep link.

So is there any real proof that PR leakage exists, that it is real? Or is it merely a figment of some overactive imaginations?

In theory, PR leak should exist, as PR is passed on based on the PR of the page, divided by the number of links on the page. It isn't a straight ratio, since a PR5 page that links to another page should give the other page a PR5. But it doesn't work this way.

Whether there is PR leak or not, it can't hurt to use nofollow internally to your "TOS" and similar pages in order to funnel PR to your most important pages.
