How do you promote your sales letter on Adwords?

Since the Google Slap has been in full affect and Google obviously hates sales letters (or so it seems)...how have you managed to drive traffic to your sales letters with Adwords and avoided the "slap"?
What I am hearing so far is to create a content site, and drive the targeted keywords to a "page" on your site that has an article, then maybe mix in your ad that way.
Has anyone actually just put the sales letter on the page of the site instead and modified it for the particular keyword phrase and made it work that way (and avoided the big G "slap")?
Thoughts, recommendations? What has worked for you?
